I had wondered through the darkness for what felt like both an eternity and a split second all at once. I roamed the comforting black abyss, enjoying the silent peace when a light shone through, enveloping me in its healing brightness and the darkness disappeared.
I groaned as my eyes were forced to open. They felt like they hadn't opened in months! I groggily sat up, putting a hand on my forehead and that's when I saw the needle sticking out of my arm. I followed it to a bag dangling by my bed that was filled with a dark, red liquid. I frowned at it before my last waking memories came back. Right, I passed out due to blood loss.
I carefully removed the I.V. drip and carefully stood up. I was hit by a sudden wave of dizziness but it quickly passed and I balanced myself out before moving to the door. When I reached it, I opened it as quickly but as quietly as possible and looked out. There was an empty hallway that stretched for quite a while on both sides of the door and a railing right in front of me.
I walked out into the hall and looked out over the railing. It overlooked a rather big entrance way with a couch on one side. On the couch slept Ayato, one of the younger Sakamaki brothers. I watched him for a minute before looking around again. There didn't seem to be anyone else here. I also figured out I was in the Sakamaki brother's mansion, which struck me as odd but I guess that was the only thing they could think of since only Shu knew where I lived.
Following the railing, I headed for the stairs and headed down, keeping my pace slow since I didn't want to stir any unwanted attention. Once I was at the bottom of the stairs, I glanced at Ayato again before heading to the door. I knew I was barefoot at the moment, but I didn't want to stay here any longer than I needed to be. Being stuck in a vampire family's home wasn't too appealing to me at the moment.
When I reached the door, I had just started to open it when it got slammed shut again. I spun around and saw Ayato standing over me, one hand against the door and the other on his hip. I swallowed the lump that was forming in my throat as I pressed myself against the door. This could be bad...
He leaned closer, his gaze never once leaving my face. "Your complexion looks better." He mumbled, finally moving away from me. "That Shu had better thank me for getting all that blood for his little snack." He scowled as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to the stairs. "Come on, Reiji will want to see you."
"Oh...um...I think I would rather go home..." I muttered, not actually looking at him as he pulled me away from the way out. "I feel like it might have been a while since I've been there."
"Are you talking back to Ore-Sama?" He asked, glaring back at me as he pulled me up the stairs, no regard for me in the slightest.
"O-of course not..." I meekly answered, no longer wanting to speak out of turn now knowing what they really were. My best bet was to play nice and maybe they would let me leave this death trap alive.
He dragged me through the maze of halls that I was in no condition to remember at all until we stopped in front of a room and he just opened the door. He pulled me in and I found myself in a rather neat room that had a few seats and a coffee table between them. Reiji sat with his back facing us, but I could his feel his anger as he turned to face us.
"Ayato, I don't know where your manners went but it's disrespectful to open the door without knocking." He scolded, standing up while shutting the book he was holding while adjusting his glasses. He seemed to have completely ignored my presence. I didn't know if that was lucky or not...
"Oh shut up Reiji. Ore-Sama came to give you the snack that tried to sneak out." He said, pulling me forward with enough force to make me stumble forward. "I think I deserve some praise."
Reiji just stared at me before shooing Ayato away. Ayato just clicked his tongue before leaving, shutting the door behind him and making my fear grow. I didn't like how Reiji was looking at me...
"You have caused us a lot of trouble and you dare try to leave without thanking us?" He asked, his glare becoming even more scary and I found myself pressing myself to the door yet again. "You don't seem to have any manners to mention. Are all humans like this?"
I took a moment to collect my thoughts. Yes, he was a vampire, but that doesn't mean he would attack me just because he was mad. "No, I think my behavior is just. I didn't ask for you to bring me here or to help me. You did that all on your own." I said, crossing my arms to try to appear to be mad.
I don't think it worked all that well because he just continued to give me that pointed glare. I was feeling more and more uncomfortable and more in danger than I would care to feel. "Little lady, you are a fool if you think that you would have survived that much blood loss with your problem." He said, venom thick in his words. "You should be thankful we wasted all that blood on saving your pathetic life."
"Oh get off your high horse. You don't have any right saying you saved me. Do you really think I don't have back up plans in case something like this where I lost too much blood? I'm the one living with it, not you." I was steaming. What right did he have acting as if he just did the most kindest act in the whole fucking world? It was definitely not going to go unchallenged.
"It was my idiotic older brother's fault that you were put through that situation so of course we took action. You should be happy we didn't just suck you dry right when you collapsed." He countered, seeming to forget his mannerly mannerisms. I was getting to him and I was feeling pretty accomplished.
"Oh, you couldn't have without angering Shu, and that wouldn't have been very beneficial since he is the oldest. But please, by all means act like it was out of the goodness of your cold, unbeating heart."
We were left glaring at each other until the door opened again to show Shu and Subaru. They stood there, looking rather shocked for the always angry and always sleeping brothers. The tension seemed to soften a bit, though, when they came in and I just smiled at Shu.
Reiji was the first to speak, though, through the slight awkwardness I was sure we all felt. "As you can see, she is up and able to move. Take her home."
"Not happening." Subaru said with a glare in his older brothers direction. "She'll be staying here so Shu can watch her."
"And my decision...is final..." Shu said, his tired, quiet drawl seeming cuter and more alluring than before.
Reiji seemed at a small loss with Shu actually taking an initiative in the process. "But...what about her parents?"
"They seem to be away on business and were rather pleased that we were willing to look after their anemic daughter until their return next fall." Subaru said, seeming a little proud with having the upper hand on his brother, despite how hard he tried to hide it.
I could only stare at the brothers, at a complete loss. I would be...staying here...I didn't like that. But the way Shu was standing his ground for the first time that I knew of, I couldn't say no. And...I smirked at Reiji. I might get more opportunities to bug him. Sounded fun, this new life of mine.
