It had been about a month since I moved in with the brothers and it has literally been a living hell. I had to be completely on guard when I wasn't around Shu. But when I was around Shu, he refused to follow me around and held me in place for hours on end. I was trying to get things done, but when I am forced to sit around for days on end, it hasn't seemed possible.
I was now in one of these situations and I had given up struggling. I laid on the couch beside him and looked over what I could be doing today, scrolling through my calender and deleting what I had planned and moving them to the next day.
"Why are you...always glued to your...phone?" Shu asked, not even looking at me.
"Because this is how I survived up until now. Keeping a schedule is how I didn't get lost between school, work, and anything else that might have come up."
"You...worked?"
"Briefly, yeah. But my parents got mad and I quit. They thought I was reluctant to depend on them because they were bad parents and I needed to reassure them they weren't." I said as I put my phone down after locking it. "Why? Is it such a foreign concept to you?" I asked with a roll of my eyes.
"...not really...just curious." He said with a sigh. "Wondering if you...miss your life...outside of this house."
"Hmm...I guess so. It was pretty normal before everything else happened once I met you, but it's not like I change it all that much until my parents get home." I said as I tried moving away from the lazy blonde. When that didn't work, I just sighed with frustration before slumping against him once again. "Can you please let go? I have to go get the laundry."
Shu let out a soft groan before releasing me and standing up along beside me. "Hurry up...I don't trust my...brothers."
"You don't have to follow. I'll be fine on my own for a few hours." I said with a glance towards him. "Unlike you, I like moving around and being active."
He remained silent before laying back down. "A few hours...that's all I'm...giving you."
"Oh? A time limit huh? What am I, a child?" I asked with slight aggravation as I walked away. I knew he was watching me as I left but that is all he ever did. He never chased after me, just watched me leave. It hurt, definitely, especially when he was the only one I truly cared for out of the six brothers, though I was starting to grow fond of Kanato who was cute...in a creepy sort of way. I sighed at my thoughts and headed to where the laundry wad hanging and quickly took it down and folded it before putting it into the basket.
I had just finished when I felt arms wrap around my waist. I stiffened before relaxing. It was just one if the brothers. Nothing I couldn't handle. "Hey Pancake." Shit. Nevermind. It's Ayato. Get away! Run! You're gonna die! "I'm starving, so let me have a bite?" He asked, though it didn't really sound like a question.
"Uh...I would rather not. Busy with chores and the like. If I don't get them done, Reiji will be furious." I said, trying to keep my voice steady as I leaned over to pick the laundry basket up. "Oh, and since you're here, I'll give you your clothes." I said as I pulled his clothes out. "Here."
I was about to hand them to him when he smacked them out of my hand. "I don't care about that right now. You refused Yours Truly, and for that you should be punished." He grabbed my wrist and pulled, leaving what I would believe a nasty bruise as he did so. He forced my head to the side and leaned in to smell my neck. Before I could say anything, he bit down and I had to hold back my scream as the pain surged through my body.
I tried pushing him away when I felt someone else grab my arms and pushing them down to my sides. "It's always heavenly when Shu leaves you alone." I heard Laito whisper in my ear before raising one of my arms up to his lips. "A feast shall partake." He said before biting into my wrist, increasing the pain I was feeling by tenfold.
I hadn't realized that it could hurt this much, I thought briefly as I felt myself start to fade into the darkness of sleep. I could feel my other arm being raised, a brief murmur of words before a third set of fangs pierced my skin. I felt my knees give out but before I hit the ground, I was pulled from the boys and into a chest I had grown familiar with.
"Shu..." I muttered, unable to keep my eyes from closing as I leaned into him.
"This is why...you shouldn't...be on your own." He said, his voice lined with sadness as the others, I assumed, backed off. I didn't know if I was imagining it, but it was a welcome hallucination if I had.
"Sorry..." was all I could muster before falling into the growing darkness of my subconscious. The last thing I could remember was Shu picking me up and the sound of the door opening. The rest was lost onto my resting ears...................
When I woke up, I was in my room with what looked like added security features. There were bars on the windows and locks on every single door. I didn't understand why the prison upgrade was needed, but I just brushed it off. Reiji or Subaru must have added it once they figured out what had happened....scratch that....maybe just Subaru.
I got up and headed for the door, only to find it locked from the outside. I grumbled a bit before looking around to see if I could find a key. If not....then I didn't know what to do. I certainly didn't want to be left alone with my thoughts, especially after what had happened. That was the first time anything like that had happened to me. They were so bloodthirsty and...and...beast-like. It was terrifying.
As I started to shake from the fear that the memories brought, the door opened and I could swear I jumped out of my skin. I turned around before pressing myself up against the wall, already fearing the worst when I saw it was just Shu. He looked at me with tired, yet slightly concerned eyes as he closed the door and slowly approached me. I relaxed my stiff body as I slowly pushed away from the wall. "Here." Was all he said as he held out a juice box and what appeared to be a blueberry muffin.
"Thanks." I mumbled as I took the food items. I thought I could savor them, but once I took one bite of the muffin, I realized how hungry I was and devoured it. "How long was I out for?"
"Just a day." He said as he sat on my bed. "But I improved...your room so there...won't be anything like...that again if you...stay here."
I tried to keep my surprise to myself when I heard this. He actually did something for someone else's benefit. I was impressed. "Thanks...I didn't realize they were so...." I let the sentence cut off, fearful for if I actually said it, he would get mad.
"Hunger satisfying monsters?" He asked and I just nodded. "That's what most...vampires are like. That's why I wanted...you to stay close...so you wouldn't...get hurt." He said, laying down on the bed. He closed his eyes, but I could tell he was waiting for me.
"Thank you Shu." I said softly as I climbed in beside him. A few more hours of sleep shouldn't hurt, so I closed my eyes and let myself relax further. I had learned the true nature of the vampire siblings, rather abruptly if anything, but I was glad I knew, for that would make guarding against them so much easier.
