A few minutes after lights out, I stood and walked to the door of my cell. I put my hand next to the handle. I could sense the electricity running through to keep the lock in place. I found the specific current and sent a small burst of energy through the wire.
I smiled when I heard the lock click open.
I slid it open and walked out. I closed the door carefully. I looked around. It was pitch black.
I formed a ball of energy in my hand. It provided enough light so that I could see. I walked down the hallway and into the recreational area. I saw Wren sitting by the library door.
Wren smiled at me. I went over to him. "You should put that away." He said looking at my hand.
I absorbed the energy again and it was dark.
Wren punched in the code for the library. The door opened and we went in. The library was safe. No one ever came in.
I walked down the movie and TV show aisle. I saw the season two package for Joywave. I smiled as I picked it off the shelf.
We had been waiting a year for the library to finally get the new season. I went back to Wren smiling. "Look it," I said. "I found it in the movie aisle."
Wren grinned. "Wanna watch it?"
"Why do you think I brought it with me?"
A few hours later, we were three episodes into the season. I turned off the TV and yawned. "We should probably go back." I said quietly.
Wren took me by the hand and pulled me to himself. I leaned against him. "We could just stay here a little longer."
I listened to Wren's heartbeat. It was calming. And I could feel mine trying to match his.
We sat for a few minutes, and could've sat like that all night, but we had to go back to our rooms. I stood and stretched.
I looked at Wren. "See you tomorrow." I said quietly.
"Sleep well, Naila."
