A few weeks passed before the changing of my skin and hair had stopped. My skin was a light pink, like what you would use in a baby's room. My hair was light purple with pink streaked into it.

I truly looked beautiful with the new colors. I couldn't help but stare at myself when passing a mirror.

There was something that was just so...natural about the colors. It felt like I was supposed to change, like having the new colors was my true self.

I walked into the gym. My abilities had been changing, becoming more powerful, but I kept it a secret. I didn't want any of the administrators, or officers, to find out. If someone found out, I didn't want to know what was going to happen.

I went over to Wren. "Wanna be partners?" I asked.

Wren's face went white. "I'm actually already paired." He said quietly. "They're assigned today."

That was strange. We only had assigned partners when the activity involved our abilities. "Do you know who I'm paired with?" I asked.

"Lyric." He answered.

I sighed. "This is going to be an interesting class today."

Wren nodded.

"Who are you with?"

"Zi," He answered. "He just transferred into our block today."

I thought for a moment. "I don't know who that is."

Wren nodded towards the other side of the room.

I turned and followed his gaze. My heart stopped. He had changed, but I recognized him. His eyes were the given feature. They were the same bright silver that I had seen at the river.

"Azi." I whispered.

His eyes snapped to mine. He tensed, but then relaxed. He pushed himself off the wall and came over.

I looked at him. "It's you." I whispered.

Azi nodded. "Yea, it's me."

"Where did you go?"

"They captured me." He said quietly. "I'm sorry."

"You couldn't have known. We were only kids."

"I knew it was dangerous though."

I was quiet. I didn't know what else to say.

"What did it give you?"

"Energy manipulation." I answered. "You?"

"Telepathy and telekinesis."

I nodded. Not many people got that type.

The instructor starting barking out instructions. "Find Wren during dinner, we'll talk then." I said scanning the room for Lyric. Azi nodded, and I walked off.

Wren ran his thumb over the back of my hand. He knew that I was nervous and was trying to make it better.

Azi sat down across from me. A girl with light blue skin sat next to him. She smiled at me. Lyric sat next to her.

Lyric smiled at me. "You're so good." She said. "I understand why they paired us."

"Thanks," I said. "You're just as good though."

Lyric shook her head. "I haven't even changed yet. I'm weak."

"Hey," Wren said looking at her. "A color doesn't mean you're strong. You're strong when you're able to use what you have to your advantage."

Lyric looked away. She was done talking.

"I'm Imogen." The blue skinned girl said with a smile. "Nice to meet you."

"You too."

Azi looked at me. I knew what he was thinking just by his look. It may have been nine years, but I'd never forget that face. He was planning something.

"You wanna escape?" I whispered.

His eyes met mine.

"They'll kill us the moment we step foot out of this place." I whispered. "There is no escaping."

"I have a plan."

"I know, but it's not gonna work. Nothing will."

Azi sighed annoyed. "You certainly haven't changed." He said.

I smiled a little. "Neither have you."

"How do you know each other?" Imogen asked looking between the two of us.

"We were taken together." Azi answered. "We were best friends."

Wren's hand squeezed mine. I looked at him. I knew the expression just like I knew Azi's. He was curious and wanted to know what Azi had planned.

I sighed. "What did you have in mind?" I asked looking at Azi.

Azi's face lit up. "I can manipulate a guard into letting us go. All I have to do—"

"No." I interrupted. "A guard cannot be involved."

"Well, what would you do?" Azi countered.

"I'd blow up the generator." I stated simply. "And then the transformers."

Azi stared at me. "And how do you suppose we do that?"

"I can manipulate energy." I said. "That includes being able to produce an electrical bomb."

Azi thought for a moment. "Do you have enough energy to do that?"

"Not currently."

"How long will it take to obtain enough?"

"I'm not sure, but at least a month or two, or maybe more."

"Have you done this before?"

"On a small scale." I said. "I've shorted out the circuit on my cell door before."

Azi thought about it.

"It's a good plan, Azi." Imogen said quietly.

"It's time consuming though." Azi looked at her intently. "Time we don't have."

Imogen was quiet.

"How much can you take in a day?" Azi asked looking back at me.

"I'm not sure. I can test it before lights out."

Azi nodded. "Okay."

I was lying in bed later that night staring at the lone light bulb in the room. I had my hand on the wall. I was taking in energy.

The light dimmed slightly. I took my hand away. I had taken a lot more than I thought I could. That was promising.

I put my hand back and closed my eyes. I started analyzing the electrical system. I needed to know it inside and out for everything to go correctly.

I sensed the generator and took my hand away again. I didn't want to go into that yet. I could sense its complexity, and I knew it would take a while to analyze.
