The wind picked up, the clouds covered the glistening sun, and my toes curled from the temperature decrease. I should've known to bring shoes, as it was the start of autumn in Britain. Or for a lot of people, the start of a new year. A fresh start. The holidays are over, and it's time to get back into work.

Or for me, it's time for things to get a little bit more odd.

In the space of four days I'd found out I was shifter Royalty, I had an Alpha mate, my grandfather was a shifter, some guy called John wanted revenge on my mate, a bimbo named Kacey wanted my mate, my best friend was a shifter, she was a rogue, and I had killed her.

She deserved to die, she challenged you. Rogues should never challenge Royalty, they know what happens, my inner self spoke.

"That's not the point." I told myself, and sat down by the river. The grass was damp from the light rainfall that had began minutes before, and my shorts were starting to get patchy. I shivered.

Nobody should talk to us like that, it said again.

And that's when I'd realised I was talking to my inner wolf, not my inner self.

"How can you-"

-do that? It's pretty simple, actually. I just contact your brain to get through to you and then I speak to you.

"I don't want to speak to you, so tell my brain to block you out."

I am only here to inform you on something.

"What?" I spat at it, watching the water.

Don't jump in. I know you're thinking about it. Thinking about killing yourself. It's practically pointless.

"And why should I listen to you?"

Because myself and your conscience have been talking, and we both agree that you shouldn't make the mistake that you're thinking of taking. Plus, we're bounded; of course you should listen to me.

"Whatever." I mumbled, and edged myself closer to the river.

It's a natural thing to kill a rogue, Georgia. You're supposed to. If a rogue challenges Royalty, it's instant death for them. You're a strong woman, and you can get through this. Now please take your foot out of the river before the current pulls you under.

"But she was my best friend." I whispered, staring at my foot in the water. It looked so inviting.

I know, but you don't need to kill yourself over it.

"I can't deal with it."

You can, Georgia. And you will. Now step back.

"No."

Either way you will survive, I can easily send a distress signal to Hale's wolf: my mate. He'll be here in less than a minute.

"Not if I force you not to."

Sorry, but no can do.

I growled, this wolf definitely had my sarcasm.

"Then I'll block you out."

Do it, I can still contact him.

"Ugh." I groaned, and closed my eyes. It said nothing back, so I instantly thought that it was gone. That I was alone. "Finally."

It felt as if the water was pulling me in, making me feel like I was free. I just wanted to forget about what had just happened. Let it go.

My head sunk into the water, and it was then when I realised I was making a mistake. I needed to get out of there. And fast.

I squirmed as the current began pulling me under, further and further. But my power wasn't strong enough, and I couldn't swim out. I squealed as loud as I could, water entering my lungs and bubbles rising to the top of the river.

And as my eyes closed, and I drifted further in, I swore I heard my inner wolf say, I told you so.

Hale's POV

"Georgia!" I called repeatedly, walking into the clearing where I had left her and Imogen. No one was in sight, but the scent of fresh blood startled me into looking at the ground.

There, lying in front of me, lay Imogen's dead body. She'd been bitten and punched, and from what it looks like Georgia had done the job from the Royal bite that lay on Imogen's neck.

I wanted to smile, I wanted to be proud of what my mate was capable of, but I couldn't.

Because I had no idea where Georgia had gone.

I tried to contact her through our mind link, however it seemed that she'd blocked me out from contacting her. That was when I got worried.

"Where are you, Georgia?" I whispered to myself, and began jogging.

My inner wolf began to howl inside of me, and I knew that Georgia's wolf was trying to contact us.

She's going to kill herself, she's going to kill my mate! We have to save them! My wolf growled at me.

"Where is she?" I asked frantically, trying to hold my anger in.

Down by the river, she's just jumped in. If you want to save her you'll have to get moving fast. Whoa, never mind.

By the time my wolf finished the first sentence, I was already bolting off into the direction of the river.

It was almost as if water was clogging up my lungs, as if I was the one who was drowning. So I pushed my legs faster and pumped my arms more, and as soon as I reached the river, I dove in, hoping to still be able to save my mate.

I open my eyes and it took a moment for them to adjust to being underwater, before I was in a state where I could see enough to find Georgia.

Go down, my wolf commanded.

I had to be careful, the currents could pull me under just as easy as they did to Georgia. But as I swam a little bit down, and saw a black figure going further and further down, I moved fastly to retrieve Georgia's body.

Once we were both settled on land, and as far away from water as possible, I heaved for air as I lay above Georgia. Her hair was damp, her blue eyes were hidden from her eyes being closed, and from the colour of her skin it almost looked as if she was dead.

But I had checked her pulse, and she was still breathing.

So I tipped her over into the recovery position, and hit her back firmly, bringing all of the water out of her lungs.

Her eyes immediately shot open as she coughed up the water that had been blocking her system. I still repeatedly hit her back to help her bring it back up.

"Come on, you haven't got far to go." I said quietly, feeling the imaginary water leave my lungs.

Georgia stopped throwing up, and sat up to look at me. I was kneeling and still had height advantage over her, just so I could check that she was alright.

"Are you okay?" I said softly, stroking her cheek.

Tears welled up in her sky coloured eyes that had the slightest tinge of green in them, and her lip quivered. The scene was clearly heart wrenching.

"I killed her, Hale. I killed my best friend. I wanted to die. She needs to come back, I need her..." Georgia began to sob loudly, her body shaking from shock and the temperature drop from the Autumn weather. I cradled her in my arms, and let her sobs fall onto my shirt as I stroked her hair, keeping her as close to me as possible, wanting to make her feel better.

"Everything is going to be okay, we're gonna get through this, alright? We can get through this, I promise." I said, and kissed her forehead.
