Tell me what you think of the book so far too... I love to hear feedback from my readers and I'm hardly getting any! :(
Also, I've changed Kale's name from Kale to Hale, just so you know. I prefer the name... so I changed it :D

I inhaled through my nose and exhaled through my mouth, attempting to keep up with Hale. After our dinner/tea had digested and he'd eventually persuaded me to get changed out of my pyjamas and into something more suitable, he decided to take me for a run.
Let's just say I'm not the best at running.
"I do not know... how you do this." I panted in between short breaths. The humidity was high, the air was thick, and it seemed like the quaint little town of West Highbrowt needed a good thunder storm. However the birds still sang and the wind stayed still.
"You just have to let it all go, let your inner wolf take over. Then you'll be able to pick up the pace. This is my version of jogging." Hale said slowly, his voice not distorted at all. I snorted at his last comment.
How am I supposed to do that?
Get angry. A voice in my head chimed. Think about Kacey running her hands all over your mate, taking him from you.
I growled loudly and my speed instantly increased as I ran past Hale with determination.
"That's better." He commented, catching up with me in less than five seconds. I looked at him with a hint of playfulness in my eyes, and his face scrunched up in confusion.
"Race you!" I shouted, picking up my pace and pushing my arms as fast as they could go. I had the upper hand, as Hale was still trying to figure out what I had said. But as I turned my head to see where he was, he was already bolting past me.
'I really hate you sometimes.' I sent to his head with a scowl on my face.
'Love you too, princess.'
I let out another loud growl, followed by a howl. Hale instantly stopped running, and turned around to stare at me. I tried to speak, but nothing would come out of my mouth.
I looked down at my hands, to see they weren't hands anymore; they were paws.
How the...
"Wow..." Hale chuckled, walking up to me. "Aren't you the prettiest little wolf I've ever seen?" He kneeled down to pet my head, and I growled ferociously back at him, showing my teeth. "Maybe not."
I tried to speak again, but came to no avail.
"You have no control over your shifting at the moment." Hale answered for me. "Whenever you're angry you shift, but only until you have control of actually shifting. It's simple really; don't get angry." He shrugged, and shifted into his wolf.
Show off.
His fur was dark chocolate brown, and looked like silk. He had to be one of the mot beautiful wolves I'd ever seen. And trust me, I've seen a lot of wolves from my dad's collection.
'What colour is my fur?' I asked him through our mind link.
'Just a little bit lighter than mine. But you have a strip of gold to show that you're royalty.' He answered. I took a chance to glance down at my paws, to see that my fur colour was just close to milk chocolate. I smiled in my head, which made my face look like I was getting ready to attack.
'This is cool.'
I lifted my nose up into the air, and sniffed. Thousands of unknown smells drifted up, and I began to cough. Ten scents lingered around me, but only one person was with me: Hale.
'Hale? Do you smell what I smell?' I said, worried.
'I have to get you out of here.'
'What? Why?'
'Rogues.'
I'd heard about rogues before, in books. They don't have a pack, and just roam around in groups. They're wild wolves. Dangerous wolves. And eight of them were heading in our direction.
'We can fight them, right?' I asked.
'I don't want you getting hurt.' He said, walking to stand in front of me, protecting me from where the rogues will be in less than a minute.
'It can be my practise for John.' I said happily, trying to convince him.
'Georgie, you haven't had any lessons on fighting yet, you might get hurt.'
'And if I do you can kill them all. I'll heal. Just let me fight.' I practically pleaded.
'Fine, but you can take the small ones, I'll take the bigger wolves.'
'Ok.'
We stood by each other, and my heart pounded in my chest. Who knew that in three days you can lose your virginity, find out you have a mate, find out you're a shifter, find out you're shifter royalty, and have your first rogue fight.
You learn something new everyday.
Just then, three humans and five wolves came into our sight. My ears twitched and I held in a growl.
"Well, well, well, what have we got here?" A dark, scary voice hissed at us. It was from the guy that was standing in the middle of the group, who I imagined had to be the leader.
Hale growled, and from the impact even I cringed back a little. It reminded me of this morning, when he'd almost lashed out at that boy.
'I need you to turn your head to the right, show them your stripe. They know I'm an Alpha already.'
I awkwardly looked at the trees to my right, and their eyes went wide with shock. The leader covered it up by the time my head was tilted back in their direction.
"So we have an Alpha and a Royalty. I'm guessing you two are mates as well. How fascinating. I haven't seen a mating like this since the early 1800s." He finished off.
Hale only growled in response.
"Big ol' Alpha man thinking he's the boss and owns the place, and Miss Royalty thinking she can't be fought because she's to precious for anyone else? This is just fantastic. We'll eat tonight, boys."
I looked at the wolves, and I could instantly tell that they were only young. Some younger than twelve. The shifters who were in human form were much older than them, and stood proudly.
'I can't kill them boys, Hale.' I spluttered out.
'If you want to survive then you're gonna have to.' He grunted back, still eyeing the three men up and down.
'They're only young. You can tell they aren't here to fight.'
'Take them out into the clearing then, hide them from the others and I'll take care of them. But do it fast and make it look like you're going to kill them.'
"-little do we know that today would be a good day for-"
'I love you.' I whispered, nuzzling my face into his neck.
'I love you too.'
"Ok, enough chit chat. Time for some action!" The leader said happily, cracking his fingers and giving a nod to the two men beside him.
The one on the left headed straight for Hale, and I made my move to get to the wolves behind the two men that still stood. However the other man headed for me, and I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do.
So I jumped. I jumped in hope that I would pass him. Instead, I clawed half of his face and dug my teeth into his neck, biting down as hard as possible. I heard a bone crack, and let him fall down to the ground.
The leader of these pack of rogues was already fighting with Hale, as he'd simply killed the first attacker, so I decided to go to the boys.
I couldn't talk, and I didn't have hands to guide them away; what was I supposed to do?
I tilted my head and nodded to the trees. All five wolves gave a short nod and sauntered off into the trees. I followed, and kept a short tail on them.
Hiding behind a tree, I shifted back into my human form and pulled on the spare pair of clothes Hale brought for us just incase something happened.
I walked back to the boys.
"We're not here to hurt you, and we aren't here to fight. I know all five of you are under age restriction and have been fighting for a while now. I'm sorry if them men were in any way related to you, but being called a rogue is not a good thing. And I think this is the only chance we're giving to let some rogues live, so you're very lucky." All five wolves nodded.
"Hey."
"Hi, are you... Ok?" I turned around and walked over to Hale and inspected him, looking for signs of any claw marks or bites. Well, all except the massive dash across his face. From me.
"I'm fine. But we have to get these back to the pack house before they run off and tell others. This is a rare thing you know, letting rogues live." He had a light hold of my hand, and was rubbing it with his thumb.
"Hale, they're kids-"
"-and kids tell tales. So we need to go." He said firmly. "All of you, shift back."
Four wolves shifted back, covering their prized possessions until Hale chucked them one of his shirts. They all ranged from eleven to thirteen.
But one wolf hadn't shifted back.
"I command you to shift!" Hale shouted, and the wolf let out a drag of air, stood up, and shifted back into their human form.
My mouth dropped to the floor as I saw a girl standing in front of me. I didn't care about the fact she was naked, I didn't care about most things at that moment of time.
All that I cared about was the hint of sadness and betrayal hinted in my voice as I said my best friends name, "Imogen?"
