~Ty~

I've learned a long time ago not to trust humans, seeing as how most of them treat us like nothing. They might seem nice at first glance, and I know this from experience.

When my owner came to look for a Neko, he seemed like an okay guy at first, acting all nice. When he first got me, he was nice to me for about a year before he turned into what he is now. I trusted a human, and look where it's gotten me- lying on the floor in pain for hours with no one else around to help or comfort me when I need them.

You could say I have trust issues, and I would agree if you looked into my situation and stepped in my shoes for even a day. One person probably wouldn't last like this...not like I have. Even I'm surprised I'm still alive.

I'm not sure which is bothering me the most right now...the fact that my ribs are more bruised and sore than ever, or that my fucking ankle is broken and is throbbing like hell. It's hard to concentrate on trying to move when one is in this much pain. Even I know I wouldn't be able to stand with a broken ankle, unless I hopped on one foot.

I've stopped crying long ago, which turned to hiccups of air, then, finally, tiredness. Except that I can't sleep like this at all. I'm guessing that it's night what with no sounds coming from upstairs. I think it's past midnight, about 1 or 2 in the morning. I try and take a deep breath, then cry out quietly in pain of my ribs. Being kicked so many times has made it hard to breathe normally.

Maybe now would be a good time to try and sneak out.

What? No, now wouldn't be a good time, seeing as how I'm hurt pretty badly and wouldn't get far. Plus the door would probably be locked.

You never know until you try...

But what will happen if he comes down here and sees that I'm gone? He'd kill me if he found me...

You can finally be free if you just try...

I sigh a little as I finally agree with my thoughts. I slowly try to push myself up, my body protesting, before I'm leaning on the wall with my right foot off the ground. Using the wall as support, I slowly limp over to where the stairs are located. Though it takes a bit, since they're on the other side of the room.

When I get to them, hope fills my mind as I silently climb up the steps to check the door. If he's asleep, he would be in his room, which is upstairs, so he probably wouldn't hear if I went through the front door.

Still against the wall, I put my hand on the door handle, take a breath, and turn it.

It's not locked...He forgot to lock it...

Grinning to myself, I slowly open the door to see the darkness of the living room, then close it as I step in. I quickly glance around the room and at the couch to make sure he didn't accidentally fall asleep there. As I quietly sigh in relief, I make my way over to the front door. I quickly and silently unlock it and open it as quiet as I can. When it's opened, I make sure to lock it again to make it look like I didn't go anywhere.

I can't believe I'm finally able to escape...after 7 years...

I limp outside and slowly close the door to not make any noise. I look around the neighborhood and see no one in sight. Grinning like mad, I thank the lord for the chance I just received, and start limping my way down the drive and onto the sidewalk.

When I get far enough away, I finally laugh to myself after many years, as I think of how, I'm finally free.

I can't believe the luck I got when the door to the basement was unlocked. He usually never forgets, but then again he was angry...

I've had to stop and rest a few times, tiring quickly from my injuries, but I only stopped for a few minutes at a time as I didn't want to chance being seen.

It's starting to get lighter outside, and that was my cue to find a place to rest where I wouldn't be easily spotted. After about what seemed like forever, I finally found a place to relax. To me, it looked like an alleyway that no one ever went into except to throw things away. (I know, cliche, sorry). I limped my way over to it. When I got to the end, where I was sure nobody would see me, I slowly laid down and relaxed, eyes droopy from being out all night.

Feeling safe enough, I let my eyes close as I drifted off to sleep.
