Riding in the Back

As soon as Hunter started up the truck and drove through the school parking lot and out onto the main road, I got a hang of riding in the back. We listened to music and sang at the top of our lungs. I felt so free when the wind blew through my hair.

Steven stared at me as I pulled my hair into a single straight ponytail. If Steven didn't blink soon his eyes would have fallen out of his head. Hunter looked too, for a quick moment until he set his eyes back on the road.

Did I have something on my face, was I growing antennas out of my head? I was sweating a bunch from the heat, so my armpit stains were not the most attractive thing in the world. Time stopped as I made eye contact with Steven. I felt my heart pound hard against my chest, that my stomach began to ache. Was Steven interested in me? It's what I had always wanted, but when the day came....I mentally and physically wasn't ready. I could no longer hear the music in the background, I could only hear me and Steven's slow breaths and the sound of my heart beating. I wanted to kiss him, I wanted to tell him I always had a crush on him....but it was the first day of Summer, I didn't want to rush any chance I may have with Steven and I don't want my time with him to be a Summer romance fail like in the movies.

I didn't want Steven to be another thing in my life gone wrong. I know it all seems too heartfelt and cheesy, but I really like Steven and I didn't want to screw it up.

Then at that moment when I was thinking all these stupid mushy thoughts, Hunter took a sharp left turn and I was about to flip backwards out of the back of the truck headfirst! I could almost feel the road rubbing the skin off my face, but then Steven grabbed the collar of my black t-shirt and grabbed my arm and pulled me back up. I was so grateful that Steven caught me, but I felt really embarrassed when Hunter was checking to see if I had a concussion when I hit my head really hard on the handle to the bed of the truck where me and Steven were sitting.

Hunter had me sit in the passenger's seat, while Steven still sat in the bed of the truck and held my stuff.

Conversation started up again and I told them about how I had to go to Summer Camp in a month and that we should hang out from time to time until then.

"Hey why don't you come to our parent's Summer bash." Hunter suggested.

"Yah you should come we could all hang out, it's really boring, our parent's have it every year to kick off Summer, and all's they do the whole time is talk to their old business friends." Steven said

"Ok cool, I'll just check with my grandparents." I replied.

"Ok then, here's my phone number." Hunter writing on a slip of paper found on the floor of the truck, while driving and handed it to me.
"So you live on the next block over don't you?" Hunter said while turning the wheel.
