Before Summer Ends

Skating

When the truck stopped, Hunter let me open my eyes. It was the biggest skate park I had ever seen. I strapped on my knee and elbow pads and my helmet. Hunter also got geared up. Hunter's skateboard had a zombie face on it and mine had a million cartoony stickers on it.

We started skating on the ramps. I fell a couple of times on my back during the night. I had to get up quick, so I wouldn't get run over by other skaters. I scraped my arms plenty of times that night. Hunter checked to see if I was ok. I couldn't really see since it was getting dark outside. I had gone down the ramp as fast as I could to try to get some awesome airtime.....but then I ran straight into Hunter, who was coming from the opposite direction!
There was a large bang noise and I felt so sore. It felt as if I go ran over by a bus. It was enough to make us both fall.
I could feel at some point we hit heads hard, my body felt heavy. I shut my eyes for a moment, and when I opened, I was at home and two figures towered over me. I was in my bed. Why were they starting at me.....am I dead and this is the afterlife, do I just live through the eyes of my old body. Then I realized I wasn't dead when I could lift my head up.

"What happened?" I asked.

"You took a big hit to the head, Ruby. You blacked out." Said one figure which turned out to be Grandpa.
"I'll give you a moment to be alone with your friend." Grandpa said leaving me with the other figure I found to be Hunter.

Hunter turned to me and sat down on the foot of the bed.

"Never scare me like that again, I thought I gave you a concussion, again." Hunter said shaking.

"Sorry I keep hurting myself. By the way, are you ok, I know your head must have gotten hit too."

"Yah I'm fine. My heads just reeling still from the impact." Hunter said with a chuckle.

At that moment it was silent. But then, a small change appeared in Hunter's eyes. Hunter sat a bit closer and leaned in to kiss Ruby. The only thing on Ruby's mind was that she wanted to kiss him too, she didn't know what would happen afterwards. Ruby didn't even realize till Hunter's lips touched hers, that Ruby found new feelings toward Hunter. Ruby could feel the warmth of Hunter's lips on her own. Both of them felt as if hours had passed, in such a short time as they kissed. Hunter cupped the side of Ruby's face with his left hand as he pulled away from the kiss.

"What was that for?" Ruby said.

"I sort of have a thing for you and in my mind this went a lot smoother." Hunter said with a chuckle.

They both went silent.

"Ruby, would you like to go to the party with me.......... as my GIRLFRIEND?"
Ruby didn't think she heard him right, but nodded in agreement as they both leaned in for another kiss.
