Before Summer Ends

Party drama

I was really nervous about the party today, I wasn't ready to be in the same room as Hunter and his parents. I put on my one piece swimsuit and put a yellow sunflower shirt and jean shorts on over it. I walked over to my full body mirror and took a spin around, looking at myself from every angle possible. I also quickly pulled my hair up into a quick messy bun.
I walked down stairs to eat lunch with my grandpa, there was still a couple hours till Hunter was going to pick me up. I still wonder where my grandma went, it has been almost two weeks since the last time I saw her. I worry about her. My grandpa tells me she's in New York visiting family, but I don't know what's true about grandma anymore. I made egg salad for me and grandpa, he can't really eat any meat because he has denchers and he can't really tear into food that well.

Later on, Hunter came to drive me to the party. On my way out, I slipped on my flip flops and grabbed my phone. I said bye to my grandpa and got in Hunter's truck. Hunter told me that there was gonna be alcohol at the party after the parents with younger kids left. He said me, him, and Steven might be able to sneak some. I have never drank alcohol before so that's also why I'm nervous. When we got there, there was tons of middle-aged men and women sitting in beach chairs in bathing suits and Steven was standing there like the odd one out. Me and Hunter walked over to Steven and the three of us headed downstairs to the basement and joined some of Hunter and Steven's friends. We all took seats on the rug in the middle of the room, Hunter sat to my left and Steven to my right. There was a girl with a short blonde pixie cut there named Selena who was sitting across from me and was really funny and nice, and two tall black haired twins named Dean and Johnnie both sat next to Selena on each side, Dean was really smart and Johnnie was a bit of a flirt but really funny. We all played card games for about an hour and then we decided to head out to the pool. Selena suggested that we played chicken fight in the pool and we all agreed. I got on Hunter's back, Selena was on Johnnie's back, and Steven was on Dean's back. Selena pushed Steven off of Dean's shoulders and fell in the water....then Selena came after me but then Steven and Dean started messing with Hunter and Johnnie and we all lost balance and fell into the water...we had a lot of fun...after we swam for a few more hours, more of the guests began to leave. Hunter and Steven's uncle let them go in the alcohol cooler and pick whatever they wanted to bring down to the basement. Hunter grabbed a bottle of rum and a case of beer. Hunter came down stairs with the drinks and joined all of us on the rug. A couple minutes later and a couple beers later, Johnnie was chugging the rum while we cheered him on.

Then Dean stopped Johnnie and said, "why don't we play a game everyone will enjoy.......extreme truth or dare anyone?"

"That sounds like an excellent plan doesn't it, Ruby?" Hunter asked.

I answered, "yah sure why not."

"Steven, truth or dare?" Dean asked.

"Truth."

"Dude that is such a pussy move." Hunter responded.

"Have you ever kissed anyone?" Dean asked, ignoring Hunter.

"No."

"Hunter....Truth or dare?" Steven asked.

"Dare."

"I dare you to play seven minutes in heaven with Selena in the closet."

Hunter looked at me as the smile he had quickly left his face.....
"Bro there is no way I'm doing that..." Hunter said in a serious voice.

"Oh come on its a dare you have to do it..."

"No.......I can't" Hunter said standing up.

"What do you mean you can't...." Steven said standing up shortly after Hunter.

Hunter just looked at me in pain, not having told Steven about me and Hunter. I stood up slowly and quietly. I grabbed Hunter's hand and put my other hand on Steven's shoulder.

Steven must have caught on quick because then he said, "I liked her first....remember that." he then ran upstairs to his room.

Then Hunter took me home and we held hands the whole way there and silence filled the space between me and Hunter the rest of the night.
