"Wade, come here, hurry." I called shooing a seagull away from an empty nest of leather back turtle eggs.
"What is it?" He called backed, jogging at a light pace up to me.
"Holy shit" I muttered under my breath seeing the one remaining turtle, the eggs had hatched a couple weeks ago but this little fellow hadn't gotten the message.
"Shit he's missing part of his flipper" Wade said crouching down beside me.
"What would we do?" I asked looking into the turtles sweet innocent eyes.
"I don't know... What would happen if we left him?"
"Seagulls would eat him long before he got to the ocean."
We stared at him with a somber silence between us, which Wade broke telling me to wait there. After a couple minutes he returned with a bucket filled with sea water.
"We're keeping him, screw it, I don't care if he's a wild animal, he needs help and your going to need some one to love when I'm gone so he's now our pet." Wade said gently picking up the creature and out him in the bucket.
"I don't know weather to slap you or kiss you Wade" I said, stunned at how adamant he was that he was going to die.
"I'll take the kiss once you name our sea baby" he said smiling at me, a little less life shone through his eyes.
"How about Winston since your so convinced that your goon to die." I said, scolding him slightly. We where on the list from Wade to get into chemo, not many people where ahead of him so I was hopeful.
"Winston's a good name for a guy, but what if he's a she?" Wade asked avoiding the talk we really needed to have.
"Then her name will still be Winston."

Seriously though, don't question why I decided they needed a pet turtle.
