"I'm on the highway to Hell!" Corin screamed at the top of her voice, dancing manically. Watney had heard this song three times over now. He knew she was doing it to irritate him, and he rolled his eyes with a long sigh when she tried to go high pitched. They were on their way to find Pathfinder. She had been singing along to Commander Lewis' Disco crap for 4 hours straight, and he honestly didn't know where she got the voice and energy from. He was almost freezing to death, and she was literally dancing along to a song he now hated with a vengeance.
"For God's sakes, Willis, shut the hell up!" He had said that almost 12 times now, and not once did she listen. 'Fooled Around and Fell in Love' came on, and immediately, her eyes widened. But, when the words started playing, she didn't sing. Peace at last, Watney thought, but when the song progressed and he heard sniffles, he knew something wasn't right.
He looked over at Corin, her head in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably as the shudders consumed her entire body.
"Corin? What's wrong?" He asked in concern over her, placing his hand on her back. He rubbed soothing circles until her head raised, revealing her rosy cheeks and tear-stained face.
"N-nothing... it's just... this song... my dad sang it to my mom, and when she died after a car crash, he sang it to her as a goodbye before she was cremated. Now, whenever this song comes on the radio, my dad cries and so do I." She replied, looking away embarrassedly.
"I am... really sorry. I shouldn't have complained. It's ok, Corin. Please don't cry, I hate to see you cry." Mark didn't know what to do. He cautiously leaned down to her level and looked her in the eyes. She stared straight back at him, and he pushed forward slowly, kissing her forehead tenderly. His lips were awfully chapped from the cold, and she giggled at the tickly feeling on her forehead.
"It's fine. You didn't know." She answered, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hands.
"Hey, if this cheers you up, we're finally here." He said suddenly, making her smile and look out of the window excitedly. They hastily got into their spacesuits and rushed out of the Rover. Mark walked over the sand, hand clasping Corin's firmly.
"Hey, hey. What's that?" Corin pointed at a string lying in the sand. Mark winked at her and followed the string all the way to a flag buried partially in the red sand.
"We're close." Mark said, stomping around for a while, then beginning to dig around for Pathfinder. Corin decided to help, jumping around a bit until she heard a clang. She immediately looked down, and then back at Watney, who was at least a hundred meters away from her. He was wrong. Tool.
She called him, and he instantly snapped his head up. He came running towards her and threw her a shovel, which she caught with ease. Corin began frantically digging around with the small shovel that was meant for sampling.
"There!" She yelled excitedly, brushing off the sand that dusted the solar panel of-
"Pathfinder."
