"Liz, I want you to be my girlfriend."
My heart skipped a beat as I heard those words. Wait, is this a dream?
Letting myself out from his embrace, I stared and widened my eyes at him as if I was trying to make sure I'm talking to the Erin I know.
"Say something, will you?" he said impatiently.
I still can't find the right words to say. "Are you drunk again?"
He couldn't wait for any answer and asked, "Of course not! Are you rejecting me?"
"No!" I said quickly. "I just..." I can't believe you're saying this now.
"Then does that mean you will go out with me?"
"Erin, are you sure about this? We've been together ever since we were little. You might just be confusing yourself and thinking that everything will be alright if you just because you've known me all your life and nothing will go wrong." My head was spinning. I want to be together with him, but why am I unsure when he just confessed to me. No, he didn't confess. He only asked me to be his girlfriend. He never said 'I love you'.
"I'm sure about this. Ever since that kiss we had, I've been thinking about how I should approach you." He held my arms again and looked at me in the eye. "Let's be together, officially. If you're thinking about what others might think, then don't. Please, let me just hear an honest answer from you. Yes or no?"
"Yes," I answered and smiled.
Erin's eye sparkled and I can tell he was very happy with my answer. His wide smile seem to reach the heavens. I grinned at his reaction.
We skipped school that day and went home together. I received a few texts from Mia asking where I was. I forgot that we were supposed to hang out after school today.
"It's okay. I'll wait for you at home. I'll prepare something good for dinner." My heart melted as he winked at me and gave me one of his warmest smile.
Explaining to Mia wasn't as hard as I thought. I met her at Starbucks that's just a few blocks away from where I live. I trusted her enough to tell her all about me and Erin.
Her mouth fell open. "Wow, the school heart-throb lives with you and you're his girlfriend now."
"Don't tell anyone. It's hard enough to get Sherry off my back and I don't want to be the center of attention at school next year."
"You can't avoid that. Erin would want to be together with you even during school, and you both have most of your classes together. Everyone would find out in the end," she explained. "But you don't have to worry about me. My mouth won't go on and talk about you two being officially together, especially the fact that he lives with you."
I thanked Mia. We talked about many things. I found out that Mia is actually a daughter from a rich family but she chose to live a simple life away from all of it.
"You know, I have always found you intimidating sometimes, Mia. Ever since I worked at that fast food chain we were both in you were always bossy and strict," I told her.
"Work is work. And everybody says that. I have always been the bossy type. I think I got it from my mother."
A few hours passed and it's finally time for us to go home. We were out of the shop for just a few seconds when I saw a familiar figure get out of a fancy black car that was parked across the street.
"Alex?" What is he doing here?
Mia whistled in amazement at the car he owned. "Nice car. You know him?"
