Chapter 2: Run Baby, Run

(A/N) I thought I would update twice this weekend and hopefully I can do that all of the time.I listened to this song the whole time I was typing it up. I suggest you listen to it. It's really good. I know it's not that new of a song by them but bare with me. I've known it for years.

I don't know how to explain to them that I did. A little white lie wouldn't hurt. Would it? "I did. It's nothing I was just messing around with it," I respond taking a bite of my sandwich so I don't have to talk again. Jayden and Logan's eyes widened and I put my finger to my lips looking over to Zander and Ashton who were listening to the music. Jayden and Logan nodded knowingly as Ashton took the earphone out.

"The song changed," he informed me. I nod and look at Zander who is still listening to MY music.

"Zander, give it back," I demand glaring at him.

"No this is a good song too," he says looking at me while nodding his head to the music.

Ashton took the earphone out of Zanders ear and gives them both to me. I smirk triumphantly at Zander. He pouts and crosses his arms over his chest and gazes around the cafeteria like he doesn't care.

"Who did the remix to that song?" Zander asks as he eats more of his food.

"Um..." I look at Logan and Jayden. They shrug and I continue,"I don't remember," I lie.

I clear my throat, "Why are you guys over here?" I ask them with a curious look on my face.

"You're my partner. We have to get to know each other," Zander answers like it's obvious.

"I don't want to get to know you. After the stunt you pulled in Math today I'm still pissed at you. "Sorry ma'am, I don't kiss and tell," I say in a deeper voice,"kiss and tell my ass," I huff.

Everyone except Zander burst out laughing. "Dude you actually said that?" Jayden asked trying to sober up. Zander looks at me with an odd expression. I don't know what it is. Pain? Is he asking for forgiveness? But then it's gone and he's smiling at Jayden and nodding.

Jayden puts his arm around me and pulls me towards him, "Hey it's okay he was just fucking with you," he explains.

"I don't like being fucked with," I mumble under my breath.

"What was that?" Jayden asks looking at me.

"It's okay. I forgive you Zander," I smile over at him hoping he believes my little act.

He smiles and I know he believes me." Yeah, I'm sorry about that," he starts while scratching the back of his neck. I could get used to seeing that...

" I just couldn't resist it. You should have seen your face though. It was priceless," he chuckles as I glare at him.

I feel a pair of eyes burning the back of my head. I slowly turn around to see a girl glaring at me. Oh shit. That's not just any girl. It's Kayla Roth. The total bitch of the school who is always in everyone's business. She even bullies me once in a while. All of a sudden she gets up and starts storming over with her two minions. So cliché. Kill me now. Do you know how fucking corny this looks. It's like a movie scene. She stops in front of me and smiles at Zander.

"Hi Zander," she happily says.

"What do you want Kayla?" Zander snaps.

"Why are you sitting over here with her," she points at me with a disgusted look on her face,"when you could be sitting with us?" She motions to her two friends.

"She's my partner for English," he states like it's obvious.

"Oh sorry for you," she whines.

I don't want to listen to this shit anymore so I get up and push past Kayla.

"Hey bitch where do you think you're going?" Kayla sneers.

"I have better things to do than to being talked down by some self absorbed bitch," I answer back before I realize what's coming out of my mouth.

She raises her hand up and it comes crashing down, but before it hits me I grab her wrist and twist it. She screams and I drop it and run out of the room. I hear footsteps behind me, but I don't dare stop to turn around. Someone grabs my wrist and jerks me around.

"What?" I snap at the person.

"What the hell was that?"asks the person and I realize the voice belongs to Zander.

I look up from the ground and see him with a shocked and worried expression but it vanishes when his friends catch up to us.

"Carter are you alright?" Logan and Jayden say at the same time. Sometimes I wonder if they plan that.

I didn't have time to respond before I'm pulled into a hug. "Guys, I can't breathe," I laugh before Jayden and Logan pull away.

"Sorry," they both say. Seriously they have to plan that shit.

"Stop dodging the question. Are you okay and how did you do that?" This time Ashton steps in font of me with his arms crossed over his chest.
Why are they so concerned with me?

"Ash let's  just get out of here. She isn't worth our time," Zander says coldly taking a hold of Ashton's shoulder.

Okay that hurt a little bit. I turn around to go and hear Logan and Jayden saying their goodbyes. I find my locker and put everything school related into it. I pull out my iPod and start scrolling through my playlists. I pick one called "Good Music" and hit shuffle. I reach the front doors and head towards my home. Ditching school is the plan for today.
