*Mackenzie's POV*
"But I don't see why I have to go." I whined. "Because he is a good friend of ours." Simon said. We haven't told anyone about us getting together yet, and I planned on keeping it a secret for a while. We've been together for a week. "C'mon. It'll be fun. I have a dress that would look great on you!" Freya said cheerfully. Freya, Kay, and I were friends, I guess. We've hung out a lot and I actually enjoy their company. "Do I really have to wear a dress?" I asked. "Yeah. You're a girl. You're wearing a dress." Kay said. I rolled my eyes. "C'mon, let's get ready." Freya said, grabbing my arm and dragging me upstairs. We had to go to some guy's wedding. Lewis was his name, I think. I let the girls drag me upstairs. This was going to be horrible.
"Why don't you wear heels? You'll look even more beautiful." Kay asked as I tied my high tops. "I favor simplicity." I said, standing up. I let the girls do whatever to my face and hair for the last hour and a half. My makeup looked good but my hair was just straightened. And they were sure to make a few comments about dying my hair back to just blonde and getting rid of the blue. I looked at myself in the full length mirror. I hate wearing dresses. I guess don't look too bad, but I still looked away as soon as possible, not happy with what I saw staring back at me. "Girls! It's time to go!" Josh's voice came from downstairs. Freya and Kay looked amazing. Freya was wearing a short, mint colored dress. And Kay was wearing a simple white one. But they both looked breathtaking. I followed behind them as their heels clicked on the stairs. I kept my eyes on my phone, which seemed more interesting than this whole event. Soon, we were at the bottom of the stairs. I watched as Josh and Vik stared with open mouths at their girlfriends. I smiled at the sight. "Well, well. Someone cleans up nicely." The sound of my own boyfriend's voice came from beside me. I leaned over the banister. "Not too bad yourself, Minter." I smirked. He looked down at himself and pretended to be adjusting his tie. He did look really handsome. "Alright, I'm taking my car." Josh spoke up, breaking the silence of everyone checking each other out. "Me too. Mackenzie can go with me." Simon said quickly, beginning to walk to the front door. "Nice shoes." Vik chuckled. I looked down at them before looking back up at him, winking. "Cheers." I said. "I'll see you guys there I guess." I said, walking out the door that Simon held open for me. I walked to Simon's car. I climbed in the passenger side and Simon was soon in the driver's seat. He turned to me, rubbing his hands together. "You really do look beautiful." He said. I felt my cheeks warm up and I looked down. I looked back up quickly and gave him a small kiss on the lips. He smiled at me, grabbing his glasses. "You look adorable in your glasses, by the way." I said. He ran a hand through his hair. "I know." He said as he started the car. I rolled my eyes. Then, it was silent. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence, but it was a good silence. "When are we going to tell everyone else about us?" I asked, looking over at him. He glanced at me before focusing his eyes back in the road. "Whenever you want to." He shrugged. "Do you think they'll freak?" I asked. He chuckled lightly. "No. You're thinking too much, relax." He said, taking a hand off the wheel and placing it softly on my leg. I placed my hand on top of his, playing with his ring on his pinky finger. He had told me it was a family thing, but I still didn't understand it really. "Can I tell you something?" He asked. "Sure." I said, not looking up from his hand. He was quiet for a moment. "I love you." He said. My heart sank. Yeah, I did have strong feelings for Simon. But did I completely trust him to never leave me? Lately, everyone's left me. "You know..." I started. I felt his hand tense up slightly. "Not a lot of good things have happened to me in my life, but you were a good thing." I said. I took a deep breath before I continued. "I love you too." I said, not looking at him. I couldn't. I don't know if I was lying or not. I did really like Simon and I did create a relationship with him. Even after I came here with the mindset that I couldn't form any type of relationships, not even friendships, because I was bound to fuck it and they would leave. That's what happened with Dad, Mom, and...Lane. Maybe it was because I knew I couldn't go back to Texas. Or maybe it was because I had already formed a tight bond with all of the guys. Maybe it was because I was finally beginning to trust myself. I wasn't the fuck up I always thought I was. I wasn't just some delinquent that deserved the death sentence. I was way more. I found myself smiling. "Do you think I'm a fuck up?" I asked. I could tell Simon was taken back by the question. "I just think you never had the right guidance." He said. "What would be the right guidance?" I asked, looking at him. "Not leaving. Being there for you. Helping. I don't know, I'm not a parent." He smiled. Maybe I was finally getting the guidance I needed here, which is why I was settling down a bit. "You know, I still have yet to see the tattoo on your back." Simon said. "When we go to the beach, you can see it." I smirked. "Guess we'll have to go to the beach soon, then." He said. "It's just a stupid quote." I said, shaking my head. "If it was stupid, you wouldn't get it tattooed on your body." He said, shaking his head. "You realize who you're talking to? Again, I once got arrested for painting a dick on the side of a building." I said, smiling. He chuckled. "You're not that stupid. You can play the guitar. And sing." He said quickly. "Wait, when did you hear me sing?" I asked. "The day you quit school. We all heard you." He said. I sighed. "Wow, thanks." I said sarcastically. "You have a beautiful voice." He said, gently patting my knee. My face got warm again and I couldn't help but smile. This is what I needed. To be happy. For once.
