Chapter 3

***

Junior: Victor

I sat at my table in advanced Chemestry class waiting for my lab partner. Tiffany Salmon was my last target for this year. I was planning on sealing the deal tonight. I scribbled notes in my notebook from the book.

I was the only one taking notes. The rest of the class was talking as Ms. Evans passed out frogs for us to discect. It was the last day of school and all of the teachers had given up on teaching us anything new. This was the third frog we'd be disecting.

I looked across the room and glanced at the clock. Lunch was next and I hadn't seen Tiffany all day. She was messing up my plans. I saw Amethyst in the corner of the room. She had her long hair pushed back behind a headband. She was intensely reading a book.

I looked next to her and saw her lab partner, Melissa. She glared at me. Melissa hated Chemistry and I was sure that she took this class just to make sure Amy wasn't my lab partner like she'd been for years.

The door opened and looked up hoping to see Tiffany so I could close the deal. But it was just some guy. He looked around confused holding a small office slip. I'd never seen him before. Ms. Evans rushed over to greet him.

I sighed and continued taking notes. It looks like Tiffany wasn't going to show.

"Class" Ms. Evans called and everyone kept talking ignoring her. She straightened out her throat.

"Class..." she called again without any acknoledgement. She got frustrated and slammed a book on her desk causing a loud boom that silenced the class.

Now that everyone was quiet she smiled at the class.

"Guys we have a new student, Justin" she gestured towards the guy who just walked in "Be nice" she said sternly. She then scanned the classroom and her eyes stopped on me.

"Victor will be your lab partner" she said as she guided him to my desk.

"Um Tiffany was my lab partner." I told Ms. Evans.

"And now Justin is." she smiled and walked away.

Justin sat down next to me.

"Hey man" he said.

"Hey" I managed to mumble. He tapped on the table.

"So dissecting frogs? Typical am I right?" He said putting on gloves. He then made a perfect incision on the lifeless frog.

"You're pretty good at that." I said knowing the difficulty considering I'd butchered every frog I'd gotten.

"Thank" he said proudly. "I'm studying to be a surgeon."

"Cool. So you just transferred to this school at the end of the year?" I asked.

"Yeah my family just moved here." He said removing one of the frog's organs. "I could've waited until after the summer to start but I decided to get to know people now."

I nodded as I watched him dissect the frog like a pro. He managed to finish 10 minutes before the bell.

Impressive time.

"What class is next?" He asked.

"Actually lunch is next." I said "Do you wanna have lunch with me and Amy?" I asked.

"Sure." He said packing his stuff "But who's Amy?" He asked.

I pointed in her direction. She was washing her hands from the dissection. She looked over in our direction and smiled shyly.
