Chapter 4

Senior:

Melissa

Today's the big day. The day Amy and Ben have been helping me prepare for. But I didn't know if I was ready.

I'm going to make my worst enemy fall in love with me.

All in anticipation of the look on his face. Once he's in love with me I'll dump his ass and watch him crumble. Just like he'd done to Amy and 17 other girls.

17 I shuttered. That's a big number.

I heard a knock on the door and I headed downstairs as my dog started barking. I adopted a basset hound puppy, Clementine back in June. Somehow my mom didn't notice until last week.

"You could've just honked or texted me you know?" I told Ben as he pet Clementine.

"Bubbles! That's no way for a man to treat a lady." he said outraged

I scoffed at him.

"Come on. Senior year is finally here."

I walked outside to his van and he opened the doo for me as I got in.

"Safety first buckle up." He demanded before he started the car. I rolled my eyes.

Besides being a stoner this boy was frigid.

"How do I look?" I asked "Do you think I can make Victor fall in love with me?" I asked.

He stopped at a light and looked me up in down. His aquamarine eyes scanned me over. He leaned over and pushed my hair behind my ear.

"You could make any guy fall in love with you" he continued staring at me until the car behind us honked.

"The light" I said as he faced forward and started driving.

Amethyst

I sat in my room brushing my hair in the mirror. It'd grown even more during the summer but I couldn't bring myself to cut it. I braided it all to the side.

Ben an Melissa were on their way to pick me up. My heart sank as I remembered my summer.

I spent half of my time helping Melissa get ready for Victor. The other half I spent avoiding Victor, but today I'd finally have to face him and hear what he had to say.

I saw the van pull up in my window and I ran outside.

"Bye Mom. Bye Dad." I shouted as I ran out of the door.

"Have a nice day sweetie!" my mom yelled.

I was excited for senior year and excited to see Justin. I'd thought about his offer all summer and decided that I'd give dating him a chance.

I got in the front seat and Melissa scooted in the middle seat. The backseat had no seats.

"Hey guys" I smiled as we pulled off. Ben's car always had a peculiar smell.

"Sorry about the crammed space." Ben apologized.

"It's fine." I reassured him. Over the  summer I'd realized he was actually very polite.

"Fine?" Melissa scoffed "We're packed in here like sardines."

"You look nice Bubbles." I teased her with Ben's name for her.

"Thanks sweetie. I'm gonna knock him dead." she smiled. I knew she meant Victor as I forced a smile.

"What's your homeroom number?" I asked.

"1160 the same as Victor's. I got you in room 2390 the same as Justin's" she winked.

"I didn't tell you to put us in the same homeroom." I gaped.

"Well you didn't tell me not to" she shrugged.

"Wait. How'd you pick your homeroom?" Ben asked.

"I know some people." Melissa smirked.

"And what about me? You didn't ask me what room I wanted to be in." he whined and she rolled her eyes.

"You're in 1160 with me don't worry. I need someone other than Victor there with me." Ben smiled.

When we got to school I headed to home and sat in the seat next to Justin. His skin had tanned over the summer.

"Hey" he smiled at me and I blushed "How was your summer?"

"I just worked at a summer camp and hung out with Melissa." I said "What did you do?"

"Go to the beach. That's pretty much it." he shrugged.

"I can tell. You got a tan."

"Yeah I tan easily. You look pretty" he smiled his 10,000 watt smile at me and I blushed profusely.

"Thanks. Over the summer I did some thinking and..." I trailed off and saw him nodding at me waiting for me to finish.

"I think it'd be great if we go a date sometime."

Victor

I just had to be Melissa. I mean sure she was pretty, but she's a bitch.

I seriously hated her but I'd have to bite the bullet and get this over with. Hopefully it won't be that hard.

Melissa and that stoner dude she hung out with walked in the class. She looked different. Usually she looks pretty but super bitchy. But today it was like she looked nicer, softer.

She sat right next to me and smiled.

I can't remember ever seeing her smile.

"Hey" she said casually.

"Hey Melissa" I cracked a fake smile. Her name was sour like sucking on a lemon. "How was your summer?"

"Nice. I worked at the animal shelter and that's about it. What'd you do?" she smiled at me.

This is weird.

"Just some training for football season. So are you excited for senior year?" I asked. She nodded happily.

"All of the events. It'll be so fun." she chirped.

This was too weird. I had to cut to the chase before I threw up.

"So Melissa." I nearly gagged every time I said her name "Do you want to go to the movies with me this weekend?" the smile suddenly disappeared from her face.

Here it comes. She's gonna bitch.

She looked down confused like she was in deep thought.

"I need to think about it." she said.

What's up with her? Just a second ago she was all cheery and now she needs to think?

Something is up with her. She's up to something.

Melissa

When homeroom was finally over I headed to math and Ben walked beside me.

"How'd it go?" he asked.

"Great. I resisted the urge to vomit" I rolled my eyes.

"It couldn't have been that bad" he said

"It was. This kid asked me to the movies like he expected me to say yes. The arrogance!"

"You know you don't have to do this" he said.

"Oh but I want to. I want to see his face when I screw him over"  I said darkly.

Ben opened the door for me and looked at me discerningly.

"You've got a real dark side Bubbles." he said.

"You don't even know the half of it." I mumbled.
