That picture above is Hanare, the girl Ibiki interrogated ruthlessly. Poor girl.
Jolin's POV
"An assassin, eh?" Dad said thoughtfully at breakfast. It was just rice and a couple of dishes. Pretty normal and really delicious! "Have you ever killed someone?"
"Yes. It was a job. I think I killed about over thirty people three years ago," I answered.
"Good," my dad praised. "As an assassin, are you afraid to kill?"
"No. Lots of my teachers told me I had the talent and I wasn't afraid to kill people."
"I see. I'm an interrogator, you know, and I'm glad that you also can stand the sight of blood," he said.
"Of course. Bloody red is actually a really pretty color, right?"
"Right." We both laughed, and I felt the time that was lost come back to fill the emptiness in my heart. I was back with my dad, and I belonged with my dad.
"Hey, dad."
"Hm?"
"Hokage-sama told me that I could either choose to be an assassin or a ninja..." I said slowly. "Which one should I choose?"
Dad looked at me seriously. "I don't mind which one, and you'll have my full support either way."
"Did you ever wish for me to be an interrogator?" I asked.
"Unless you went down that path, I would help you. On the other hand, you didn't, so I would just watch you walk down a different path," he answered.
"I want to stay as an assassin, but I want to experience being a ninja," I explained, washing the dishes that were in the sink. "I want to stick to my job as an assassin where that's my comfort zone, but I also want to step out and learn more from a different perspective."
"I always knew you'd grow up with a smart head," my dad said. "If that's how you feel, why don't you tell Lord Third about it?"
"Think he will accept my decision?"
"Sure. He knows how to deal with situations like these. If you want, you can always help me interrogate those prisoners as a third choice," Dad joked.
"Their screams are what makes everything exciting," I laughed with him.
"Yeah."
So after breakfast, dad went to the interrogation building, and I went the Hokage's office to tell him about my decision. After questioning me further. Lord Third did the final decision.
"Jolin, you are going to be part of Konoha's assassins, however, you will also attend the ninja academy and become one of the academy students," the Hokage said. "In the morning and afternoon, you'll go to class, and the days you don't have class, your boss will assign you an assassination, how's that?"
"That works just fine. Thank you, Hokage-sama," I said gratefully.
"Good. Here you go." He called in another assassin who was much older than me and explained the situation.
"Hello, I'm Ijuro," the man said. "I am the head chief for all the assassination missions, so you will come to me for any missions and report to me when the job is done."
"Hai. Pleased to meet you," I said, bowing.
"Come by when you have time to take the exam," Ijuro explained, leaving the room. He seems pretty straightforward. A no nonsense kind of guy.
"I'll inform Iruka about your arrival," Lord Third added. "So you can start at the Academy tomorrow."
"Thank you very much!" I bowed gratefully.
I left the office and decided to take the exam for assassination. Hopefully, I can pass.
The Assassination Exams work like this: I am like on Genin Level as an Assassin to Konoha. So like ninjas, I just have to take exams every year to level up. In order to reach the highest level of Assassins, I need to take four exams. They are.....
Beginner (yay!)
Intermediate
Professional (I am a pro already, but I need to prove myself first.....)
Of course, that means the Hokage himself has to give me the recommendation or permit to let me take the exams. But for now, I'm going to take my first test.
After some directions, I finally went into the building near the corner of the village. Several questions later, I was sent to a empty room except for a table, chair, and a stack of papers.
"Fill the blanks on the paper. It's a test and you have one hour," someone said before shutting the door. I blinked and sat down. I looked through the questions and recognized every last one of them from my previous assassin teachers.
Less then an hour later....
"No way, this kid got every single question right!" Someone yelled at Ijuro.
"Time?" The chief asked.
"Just under fifteen minutes!"
"Take her to the second part of the exam," Ijuro ordered.
I was led to the basement that was extremely dark and locked in there. When the lights came on, I realized what they were trying to do.
"We are going to test your ability to withstand physical pain," Ijuro's voice crackled over the speakers. Several assassins dressed in black held all kinds of tools that were meant specifically for torture. "If you need them to stop, say 'red'. But if you say 'red', you will be disqualified, and you will not pass the beginner exams. This session goes on for exactly three hours."
The speakers cut off and the men thrusted me roughly towards a chair with blades on the seat and adjustable handcuffs on the sides.
Okay then. Bring it on.
Three hours later.....
"Well done, Jolin. You are an official member of the Konoha Assassins!" Ijuro praised, giving me an armband with a special design.
"Thank you every much." Just as I was about to leave, he spoke up.
"How did you get all those questions right?"
"Oh, I just had a couple professional killers teach me those type of questions."
"When did you feel like screaming during the second part of the exams?" he asked, referring to my torture session.
"Actually, I didn't feel like screaming. It felt pretty normal." I left Ijuro stunned in his office.
That night, my dad was happy to hear I was a Konoha Assassin and academy student.
"That's my kid," he said proudly. I grinned and hugged tightly. I was definitely home.
(I made up the assassin group. I know, ninjas kill if they need to. But for the sake of this story, ignore it.)
