Jolin's POV

As I stayed huddled in the alleyway, I thought back to how I even got into this kind of mess. Sometimes, I'm so busy that I don't even remember how I managed to create an "inner self."

Oh wait. That's right.

I created my "inner self" back when I was six years old.....

Author's POV

"Daddy....." Jolin wailed quietly, hugging her pillow. She was in her room, all alone in the apartment without anyone around. It's been a long time since she has seen her father, so no doubt, she was feeling lonely.

"Hello there, little girl."

"W-what?" She sniffed, sitting upright. "W-who's there?"

"Oh no one. Just me and you."

"Where are you!?"

"I'm in you."

"What are you doing in me?" She looked down at her stomach, pushing the pillow from herself.

"I'm here to give you a contract."

"W-what's that?"

"Hm, a contract is like I give you something that will make you happy, and you do something for me that will make me happy. How about it?"

"I want my daddy."

"Why?

"Because I'm lonely! I want my daddy!" Jolin cried, shoving her face in her pillow again. She heard someone sigh, but kept sobbing.

When Jolin calmed down, the voice didn't speak, but soon the voice came back.

"Well, are you done crying?

"I-I'm not crying!"

"Well then, are you lonely?

"Y-yeah." Jolin sniffed before reaching over to the tissue box and blow her nose.

"I see. Well, I can't give you your daddy back, but I can help you feel not so lonely.

"How?"

"Well, contract. Being lonely makes you sad, right?

"Y-yeah."

"So how about, if I can make you feel no so lonely anymore, then how about you do something for me?

"Um, what can I do for you? You're in me, right?" The little girl asked, looking around.

The voice in her mind chuckled, almost comfortingly. "Well, it's not too difficult. But don't worry about that. Just remember that you owe me.

"What's 'owe'?"

"Means that you still have to do some thing for me in return. Just not now.

The idea of a contract seemed pretty nice to a six year old. "Okay. I want to do a contract."

"Sure. Then--

"Wait! What's your name?"

"Me? Oh, just call me your inner self.

"Inner self?"

"Yup. Now, are you ready to make a contract with me, Jolin?

"Um, okay."

"Good girl. From now on, I'll be here if you want to talk to me, okay? You won't feel lonely if there's someone to talk with you, right?
