"You said he'd be okay! You said he wasn't going to die! You lied to me! You lied to him!"

The loud yelling from his significant other woke the older man from his pain induced sleep. He'd been in pain for what felt like days, but was really only six hours. Six hours of pain had passed by, yet he was still not ready.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Cassell. At this rate, he is more at risk for internal bleeding. It's been six hours, sir. He still has a couple more hours before we can perform the procedure. He's at risk and he will be during procedure. If something goes wrong, it could kill him."

The doctor's voice was calm, laced with sadness for both individuals. This doctor didn't want the odds to be this way, but it was inevitable. With the current situation, no one really knew what could happen. The doctor knew that the last nine months had been hell for both individuals, but understood the older man's reasoning. The older man had done this for his significant other. He suffered through the last nine months for them. He wanted to do this. The two lovers had wanted this for the past year or so. The chance finally came and now, Tom only felt sadness.

"You don't understand! I can't lose him! I can't! There has to be something.."

Tom was exhausted at this point. He had been waiting so patiently for the six hours, only for the doctor to tell him this. He didn't want this. Not anymore. Not if his lover wasn't going to make it. The loud beeping suddenly had Tom's full attention. He ran back inside the hospital room, eyes scanning his lovers figure. The older man lies on his back. His belly was swollen with his child. His lover was pale; paler than he'd ever seen him. Tom took a deep breath and walked closer to him.  His lover's eyes were watery and glazed over with pain.

"Tom.."

His name was spoken weakly. A tear escaped Tom's eye. He knew.

"I love you. Save....Save the baby, okay?"

The one request caused rage to bubble within Tom. He shook his head. He knew.

"No. Jordan, please. We're going to save you, too!"

Jordan shook his head slightly. He knew.

"Tom, don't worry about me, okay? Save our child."

Tom let out a frustrated sigh, nodding slowly. He knew.

The doctor was quick to call nurses and other doctors. It was finally time. Jordan was taken to the operation room immediately. The procedure began and the inevitable was suddenly scarier to the doctors than the actual procedure. They knew.

Three hours is how long it took for the procedure to be completely. Two minutes is how long it took for the child to start crying. Three hours and twelve minutes is how long it took for Jordan to breath his last breathe. Thirty minutes is how long it took for Tom to begin to understand. He knew.
