Lauren's P.O.V.
All I could think to do was disappear. As soon as the door clicked open, I let myself vanish as a couple of husky men came in.
"Girls, come on. This is your chance to get off this ship. Just look pretty and you'll be fine," one said with an almost toothless grin.
"No, don't touch me! I can walk myself outside, perve-" Ally was cut off by a smack to the face.
Her blonde and brown streaks of hair stuck to her face where her sweat and tears were. I can't say she didn't deserve that with her big mouth, but I can't say that I don't want to punch the man for treating her like that.
"I would have punched you, but black eyes aren't good for business at the moment. This girl might be lucky if anyone even looks at her," he said looking at Dinah. She still had a dark purple bruise on her right eye, but the swelling has stopped. "You better fix yourself and look extra pretty for the buyers on the docks."
I walked around the man and into the hallway that was still full of rotten odors. I turned to the right and was about to run, but I froze at the sight before me. There were men at each of the doors in this hallway.
The only thing helping me now was my angelic state. I couldn't be seen it, and I could choose not to be touched in it. I could touch anyone or anything, but you couldn't touch me unless I wanted you to.
I phased through each of the men, and the crying girls, following the man all the way at the end of the hall through the ship. Each hall that we turned into was more revolting than the last. A more disgusting stench, a flithier layer of grime building up in the metallic walls, a few splatters of a dark red that I assumed to be blood. Who knows what else occurs on this ship?
Eventually the stench began to cease and a light gray light filled my eyes. The scent of sweet raindrops filling my nose as i walked off the ship to the sight of thick clouds that coated the entire sky. It was a peaceful image until the crying girls came trudging out onto the deck with a dismal look of hope in their eyes.
I looked down the docks to see a row of men lined up along the docks. The guards that were on the ship had each of the girls walk passed the men as if this was some sort of sadistic catwalk. A couple of men actually reached out and felt up the girls. Running their fingers through their hair, getting a girl squeeze of their breasts, grabbing their butts. They looked more with their hands than anything.
I walked passed the girls and the men quickly so I could pretend to be a buyer before I was noticed. I made it all the way to the end until I saw a flowing dark red dress. Another woman? Well at least I wouldn't stand out too much. I walked further so I could stand at the end next to her. When I got close, I stopped abruptly as soon as I saw a familiar face that was cast out of heaven hundreds of years ago. It was Camila.
I was shocked to see that she looked directly at me and made eye contact. It scared me only for a second, but I realized soon that angels, demons, and ghosts can all see each other no matter what.
I picked up the pace and ran over to stand next to the former angel still dressed in long hair with a color blacker than a raven's feather. Her skin was even paler than mine. A scar that had once split her skind open danced across her left eye, which were as dark as the hair that flowed from her head.
She had tried to take up arms against God himself, but he sent one small bolt of lightning to her face as a message to her followers. To try and fight him was foolish. He had power that none of those fallen angels have ever tasted before. What makes them think that sheer numbers can rise up against that?
Once I stood by her, I made myself visible once again. Just before the first man had come with a navy blue suit on. It was certainly much nicer than all the other men's suits so I assumed he had enough money to buy all of these girls. Half of his face was covered in a short beard while the upper half held steely blue eyes that attempted to claim dominance.
I assumed he was a buyer just making his way to the end of the line, but he spoke to us directly instead. "Who are you two women? How'd you find out about this place? It's invitation only," he said sternly.
Camila gave him her signature smirk. "I've got some special friends that informed me."
I, however, remained more quaint and respectful. "I have friends in high places," I said.
"I see," he said. "Well as long as you make a decent offer, you're good. Oh, and if you think of trying any funny business, we have cameras out here. So we will find you. But I'm sure you already knew that from your so-called friends."
"Yes, sir," Camila taunted.
He looked down at my feet with a look of confusion. "Why is it that you have such a beautiful black dress, but no shoes on?"
Damn it. I had forgotten. Before I even tried to give a reason, I closed my eyes and said a quick prayer in my head. "God please bless me with shoes as I continue my journey."
Without a moment to spare, I felt the warm feeling of some high heels on my feet. I looked down at the pure black that was as dark as my dress.
"What do you mean?" I asked
in fake confusion. "I have shoes on.""Cool magic trick. Not very professional for a buyer though," Camila chimed in annoyingly.
"Huh, my eyes must be fooling me."
He walked away, without another glance towards me, and made his way towards the center of the line of buyers. He had each of the men bid on 1-4 girls at a time. Part of me wanted to buy them all to keep them safe, but God has stated that my priority right now is Dinah. And buying everyone would certainly raise some suspicions that would follow the girls forever.
When he did finally get to all three of the girls that I met, I raised my hand for all of them.
"Do we have five thousand? Six? Seven..." he asked. Eventually it was me and Camila bidding at five hundred grand. She knew what I was doing. And I'm sure she was here to try and make sure I don't accomplish my mission, but I hate unfinished missions more than anything. She knew that. Besides that, my wings were at stake here.
A/N:
I want to keep these chapters short and update a lot. I find it kind of tedious when chapters are too long so this is what I'll be doing.
The image is of the man in the navy blue suit.
