CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
"Hi, it's Griffyn. Sorry I can't make it to the phone right now, but you can leave a message after the beep."
Beep.
I growl in frustration and throw the phone onto the bed. I'd been calling Griffyn multiple times throughout the day and he won't answer. At least, he hasn't answered the past fourteen times I've tried.
I quickly dial Parker's number, only to come up with her voicemail too.
"Damn you, Rivers for not answering your phones." I snap as I hang up and throw the phone aside. Guess I'm going to have to do this the old fashioned way and walk over to talk to Griffyn in person.
The short walk over to the Rivers' house does little to lighten my mood and I'm still angry and confused even as I knock on their front door.
Parker answers the door with a scowl.
"Hey!" I say, regarding her scowl. "What's up with you and Griff? You weren't answering your phones. It's like you're avoiding me or something." I force out a light chuckle that comes out sounding flat.
"That's because we are." Parker states, the scowl still in its seemingly permanent fixture on her face.
The smile falls from my face in less than an instant. "What'd I do?"
Park scoffs and crosses her arms, making it sure that my company is unwanted. "Don't act like you don't know."
"I really don't."
Park rolls her eyes and reaches to grab ahold of the door. "Griff gave you plenty of chances -- too many in my opinion -- to prove you hadn't changed; that you were still his friend over anyone else. But yet again, you disappointed him."
"I'm sorry. If this is about me going Carolina's cabin last night, I texted-- I explained myself."
"Yeah, well. He found out there was sort of a party there last night. Definitely not the girls' night you promised him was going to happen."
"I swear I didn't know! I left when I found out! I didn't even stay."
Parker shrugs and now manages to look guilty. "Carson, you're a good friend, I know this. So you probably can make it up to him soon, but as of now, Griffyn is in no mood to talk to you."
Then the door is shut in my face.
Ouch, rejection hurt.
