CHAPTER TWENTY NINE
Turns out, Penelope seems to be just fine without Carolina. I was kind of worried about if she'd make it through high school by herself, but she seems to be doing just fine. Well, as fine as she can be while being friends with Melody.
Yes, I'm still bitter with her.
The only reason I'm focusing on the two girls making their way across the lunch room is the fact that I'm trying to avoid the people sitting at my own table.
Alesha has been trying to talk to me this whole time. She's apologized on several occasions and still won't shut up even though I've said, "It's fine," at least five times. It's like she just wants to rub it into my face. Okay, maybe that's just my jealousy talking.
But I can't really be blamed. I mean, she did ask the guy she knew I liked out to the dance when she was supposed to be my friend. And she also broke a three year tradition that was supposed to be continued this year where Griffyn and I go to this dance together. But, you know, it's whatever.
No big deal.
"I'm seriously so sorry," Alesha apologizes again, leaning over from my right side to speak quietly enough that Griff won't hear from the other side of her.
I turn away slightly to roll my eyes without her noticing. And that was apology number nineteen. She's on a roll.
"Alesha, I think she gets it." Park whispers, leaning in from my left side. Since Parker didn't get to know Alesha well before, she's automatically took to disliking her. Park doesn't know her for the great advice she gives. Park knows her as the girl who stole Griffyn from me.
At Parker's words, Alesha backs off and resorts to sending guilty and pitying looks my way all of lunch, which almost ends up being worse.
"I swear, if she ends up acting like that until Friday's dance, I will punch her in the face," Park mumbles to me under her breath.
I laugh halfheartedly, though I'm more focused on Alesha, who's whispering to Griffyn quiet enough to where no one can hear what they're talking about.
Usually, that would've been Griffyn and I whispering, having all kinds of inside jokes we'd refuse to share with anyone else.
That's not the case anymore.
She's replacing me and he doesn't even seem to notice.
