~Trigger Warning on this chapter!~
Staring at the wall in my bedroom, flashbacks continued to stream through my head.
"Your turn, Lexi! Roll the ball from the black lines and see how many pins you can hit." Dad said.
"Okay!" I smiled and rolled the ball in the middle of the bowling lane and hit all the pins.
"Your first strike! That's my girl!" Dad grinned proudly.
The memory soon faded out of view. I was alone now. I didn't have to hold back my tears any more. As sparkling tears streamed down my cheeks, I wished so badly that I could bring him back. I sat there on my bed, relieved that I was alone.
After I finished crying, there was nothing but the empty dark. I didn't want to let the world hurt me. No, only I was allowed to hurt me. I took out the little case I called my Tender kit, an old Icebreakers container with my blade collection and Band-Aids inside. I began my writing in red on my upper thighs, where there were already layers of fading scars. I could hide it the easiest this way. I finished drying the new scars and hid my Tender kit as if this was normal.
Then I ran back outside the back door to the woods. "Shadow?" I had to talk to her, surely I'd feel better then.
Shadow appeared in the dark silhouettes of the trees.
"Hey, girl." I slid my hands down her silky fur, comforted by her warmth. "My dad died," I told her straight up, refusing to let more tears come out. "And I've been pretty overwhelmed by everything. The changes. A new school, new people, more classes, and it's all making me dizzy."
Shadow sat forward, resting a paw on my leg.
"What am I going to do without him, Shadow? I miss him so much already. I can't imagine living life without him. You're not supposed to lose your dad at sixty years, not fifteen!" I stroked her fur again.
Shadow looked at me with understanding in her eyes. I could feel the loyalty of her wild wolf spirit shining through her.
The sun started to vanish below the horizon. "Thank you for listening to me, even if you can't really respond to me. I should get back to the house. See you tomorrow, my friend."
