As I started at myself in the mirror in the beautiful floor length lilac dress that had a white sash just under my bust, I couldn’t help but praise the makeup artists mentally for making me look so good. My eyes were surrounded by a perfect line of eyeliner and my skin was free from any beauty spots and other blemishes. My hair was done in perfect ringlets and had perfect white daisies in the two plaits that started from just above my ear and came together at the back.  The usually dark circles under my eyes were gone and my eyes shone with excitement. I promised myself I’d be happy today, for Jodie and Samson.

I had almost gotten over Drake’s cut of contact from nine months ago. I’d tried calling him when his plane was supposed to land but his phone was off. I tried once a day and they all went to message bank. After a month, someone else had gotten his number because he’d unregistered it under his name. He deleted his Facebook account and MySpace account. He’d deactivated his email address and cut all other contacting sources. I was really hurt when he did that. He cut all contact from our crew too and no one has heard of him since. The only reminder of him was my bulging stomach. I was due this week sometime but Samson and Jodie decided to have their wedding now anyway. I looked away from the mirror and face Jodie’s brides maids.

She’d wanted me to be one even though how heavily pregnant I was. They specially made the dress for me so that it’d still be at the floor all around my feet and not come up at the front. The dress was really beautiful and all the brides’ maids look beautiful. Megan was the maid of honour and I was a bride’s maid with five other girls I’d never met before. We all looked dull beside Jodie’s glowing face and everything about her being perfect, not a hair out of place or a smudge of makeup.

I was watching over little Penelope, my niece, for Jodie while she got herself perfected. I was really excited for my brother and soon to be sister in law, I truly was. Penelope started to cry so I picked him up out of the pram he was in and rocked him in my arms gently. I cooed him and when I noticed the room wasn’t filled with excited chatter, I looked up. All the women in the room were looking at me with small smiles on their faces, looking at me with Penny. I smiled a little and put Penny back in her pram when she’d settled down.

Soon enough, it was time to start the ceremony. I was the first person out of the door, followed by one of Jodie’s friends and then Megan. Next came out Jodie with her father and then the three remain women walked out. I started to walk out and got half way down the grand stair case of Jodie’s parent’s mansion where the wedding was being held when I felt a sudden liquid fall from beneath me to the floor, making a massive wet patch on the carpeted staircase.

“Oh shit,” I whispered and suddenly didn’t know what to do. I was frozen and people had their video tapes rolling so I didn’t want to do anything out of character. I decided to just ignore but whispered to the girl behind me, I think her name was Jane, “My water just broke!” I sort of yelled it but I didn’t care. I’m sure no one besides her would hear over the piano playing.

“Oh my goodness, are you serious?” She asked loudly. She saw the wet patch on the carpet and screamed, “Desiree’s water just broke!” I turned around to look at her and she was smiling, “Can we do it here?” I gave her a questioning look, thinking she was a little crazy for suggesting it. All the brides’ maids and Jodie appeared behind her,

“Jane is a midwife,” Megan explained and all of a sudden I was off the ground and being carried bridal style by McKay.

“There’s a baby on the way!” He shouted excitedly and Nat and Courtney appeared next to me, beaming.

“I’m so sorry, Jodie!” I yelled as Jodie’s mum directed all my crew, Jane and Jodie into the nearest bathroom. They laid me down in the massive tub that was in it and Jodie pushed out all the males in the room, much to their disappointment. When they got all the reluctant guys out of the room, Jane pulled my dress off as the first contraction hit. I screamed out in pain and gripped my massive belly. The doctor who did my ultrasounds said I was having more than one baby. I think she was quite confused because a different person came with me to each scan. McKay was the most excited about me having a baby; him, Benny, Chase, Liam, Josh and Samson all came to my scans on time or another. Nat, Courtney and Jodie all came at different times as well; Rueben and Ali even came to one. The support I was getting from all my friends was amazing and I realised how much they actually cared about me.

All Drake was to me was the father of my child or children. It was about five more contractions before the first baby was out. I sighed in relief when I saw the beautiful baby girl in my best friend, Courtney’s arms. She my blonde hair but it looked dead straight, like Drake’s. I couldn’t see her face because another cool wash cloth covered my face. I sighed in relief because it was very hard work being in labour. A couple of hours later, I had a beautiful baby boy in my arms. He looked exactly like Drake it wasn’t even funny. I didn’t care that he looked like my first love, because I’d gotten over him. I have moved on, just like he obviously did. I haven’t found anyone new and don’t plan to either, I was happy being single and just having the company of my best friends. I was annoyed with waiting for the storm to end and I learnt to dance in the rain,

“My baby Daniella and Collin,” I don’t know what made me name them that. I’d always loved those names, Daniella (pronounce Dan-YELL-a) and Collin; Cole for short.
