“Okay so today we will go to the third floor, where the photo sets are all set up, like the lighting and everything. You will be assigned with my assistant, Jennifer for the day and I’m so sorry that I can’t accompany you, I have some much important matters to deal with. Now Jennifer should be here soon to escort you to the third floor after I show you all the camera tricks. I take it you haven’t got much experience with the big cameras?” She asked, smiling sweetly at me.
“Um, yeah when I took those pictures on Benny’s that was basically the first time I’d picked up one that size, a professional one.” I said a bit awkwardly.
“Honey, that’s fine!” Shanae reassured me, “You’ll pick it up soon enough.” She smiled and opened a drawer in her desk and took out a key. She stood up and walked over to a large cabinet that had glass doors. Behind the glass doors were quite a few, very expensive looking cameras. She opened the cabinet and took one out before closing it and locking it. She brought it over to me and ushered me to stand next to her, “Now,”
She continued on and told me how the camera works and all the features. She showed me the zoom, focus and lots of other things that I will most likely forget about. I took in all the new information and stored it up for use a couple of hours later.
Jennifer ran into the room in a hurry a couple of minutes after Shanae had finished explaining the camera, “Mrs. Rae!” She shouted. She looked really stressed and flushed, her really dark blonde coloured hair a mess and her cheeks flushed, “Linda just called sick and I can’t find a replacement for the twelve o’clock booking!” She shouted in a high-pitched voice. She looked to be in her late twenties, early thirties and was pretty; not gorgeous or someone I would take a second glance at if I saw her on the street.
“Is that why you took so long?” Shanae asked in an annoyed voice, not looking at her but at the camera in her hands, “Well then, Dez, this looks like it’ll be your chance to shine,” She smiled at me and handed me the heavy camera.
“W-what?” I stuttered, clutching the camera so I wouldn’t drop it and break it, “Are you serious?” I asked, my voice wavering.
“Yes, dear. We need someone to replace Linda, the person who was supposed to do the booking and she’s sick so you’ll fill in. Jennifer, can you please take Dez to the third floor,” Her voice became harsher when she talked to Jennifer. I’m guessing she doesn’t like her much.
“Y-yes, Mrs. Rae,” Jennifer stuttered and pulled me out of the room. I followed her silently into the elevator and we silently travelled down to the third floor. The doors dinged and opened and Jennifer hastily made her way out of the elevator and into the dark room. She was obviously angry that Shanae had chosen me, the amateur to do the shoot and not her so she wasn’t looking where she was going and tripped on a lead. On the set that was in the corner of the room, one of the massive lights that looked like umbrellas fell down. This caused a chain reaction when it wobbled and fell, ripping through the white sheet and falling on another light, which also fell over and smashed when it hit the hard floor. The sound was loud and echoed through the large room.
Jennifer had fallen to the ground and was watching in awe at the mess that now lay on the ground in front of her. She let out a small scream in disbelief and started to cry. I didn’t really feel like going up and comforting her so, being the bitch I am, just stood their silently laughing at her.
There was smashed glass everywhere and not long after the misfortune happened, the elevator dinged and out came a couple of people, Shanae being one of them. She took one look at the scene in front of her and huffed,
“Jennifer, you’re fired. I don’t ever want to see your ugly face again.” Her voice was like ice and it cut through the tension in the air like a blade. Jennifer clumsily got to her feet and ran out of the room crying. Shanae let out a shout of frustration and sighed, “What will we do now?” She said in a very annoyed voice, “Suggestions anyone? We obviously can’t do the shoot here anymore,” She gestured to the once perfect set.
I suddenly had a great idea. I looked out one of the only windows in the room to see that the sun was out for once,
“Um, Shanae?” I asked in a small voice, trying not to cause too much attention. It was unsuccessful because all eyes, including Shanae’s, were suddenly on me. I sighed in defeat but just shared my brilliant idea anyway.

“I hope this works, honey,” Shanae chirped from the driver’s seat of her car when we arrived at the wharf.
“So do I,” I replied sceptically and hopped out of the car. Shanae followed suit and I got some of the heavy equipment from the boot of the car. Shanae got some out as well and we set it up on the dock. Some men came and set it all up for us and now we just had to wait for this band to come. We saw a van pull into the parking lot next to Shanae’s car and four men hopped out. They had already had their makeup and wardrobe figured out back at the office and they just came directly towards us.
As they were walking, I realised these were the four guys that I’d met in the hotel the other day; Winston, Markus, Ben and Ted. They smiled when they saw me and Shanae decided to introduce us,
“Dez, this is the band I was talking about Mumford and Sons.” She smiled brightly at the boys and they all kissed her cheek in greeting.
“Hey Dez,” Winston greeted me with a big smile on his face. I just stared at them in shock,
“You guys are Mumford and Sons? I should’ve know…” I trailed off and smiled at them, “Why didn’t you tell me who you were?” I asked excitedly.
“Why didn’t you tell us you worked for Shanae?” Ted shot back.
“Because I don’t” I replied, “I’m just filling in for someone,”
“Boys, Dez has never actually took pictures before so hopefully she works for you guys. Her friend, my son, sent me some sample pictures she just took and they’re amazing.” Shanae sounded so sure and proud of me that I couldn’t help but wonder what it’d be like if my own mother showed me that kind of support.
“It’ll be fine. What do you want us to do?” Ben questioned and we got started. Soon enough, I got the hang of all the different buttons and switches. I hope the pictures turn out okay and by the end of the day I was a little exhausted. Shanae praised me for doing such a good job and said she couldn’t wait until she got to see them on her computer tomorrow when she dropped me off at our hotel that evening.
I got up to our floor and walked into the room. Benny and Courtney were both sitting on the couch, one of my children on their laps. They looked extremely tired and on the verge of falling asleep. I smiled at them and they both smiled at me half-heartedly when they caught my eye. The TV was on but I don’t think any of them were paying attention to the boring news that was on.
They’d fed Cole and Daniella just before I got home and they’d even cooked some dinner. I put Cole and Daniella to bed and went into the kitchen to heat up some of the carbonara Courtney had prepared. Benny wondered into the kitchen while I was waiting for the microwave to finish zapping my food,
“Drake called,” He said in a sad voice. My eyes snapped to his face from where they was watching the glass plate rotate mine,
“What did he say?” My voice came out a whisper, cautious to what Benny was going to say.
“He knows about Cole and Daniella.” Benny stated, “He wants to see them.”
