CHAPTER 10
The little boy with beautiful big grey eyes squatted in front of me to level our sight. He looked as if he’s the same age as I am.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” He asked with such curious eyes.
“I-I’m… I-I think a bad man wants to kill me…” I was on the verge of crying.
He frowned, “I’ll protect you!”
“Really? You promise?” Hope sparked my face.
“I pinky promise!” He linked his pinky with mine and made our thumbs touch.
“Don’t break your promise, okay?”
He beamed at me, “I won’t. What’s your name?”
“Erin, how about you?”
“I’m An—”
“What are you doing here, kid?! You’re not supposed to be here! Didn’t I tell you that?” A gruff man came, cutting off the little boy’s introduction.
“I-I’m sorry, Dad.” He looked at me one last time before running off.
I hoped I got my supposed-to-be protector’s name.
I woke up with a heavy heart. It’s the same dream again. I’ve been having the same dream for a few days now. I don’t know why… but it’s bothering me deep down. I know it’s just a dream but something’s telling me it might be… real and not just a fragment of my imagination.
I shook my head to awaken myself, resolved to forget about the dream and have a great day. It was Saturday and as Ravi has promised, we’re supposed to go shopping today. I ran into Ravi’s room and barged in without knocking.
“Hey, wake up!” I shook the life out of my topless brother.
He groaned, his face still buried in his pillow. “Ugh. Shut up, Rin. It’s Saturday… let me sleep for fuck’s sake.”
I slapped his face relentlessly, “Stop cursing, brother dear. That’s bad, you know. Dad will kill you if he hears that. And you promised me you’ll take me shopping today.”
“No, I didn’t… Leave me alone…”
I crossed my arms over my chest, “Oh, so you’re not keeping your side of bargain, huh? Let’s see about that.”
I pulled his blanket away from him along with all his pillows. Then I jumped into his bed, wrapped my right hand around his neck and pinch his nose with the other.
A few moments later, my sleepy brother was finally awake, coughing violently and breathing horribly, trying to catch his breath while I was on the side, laughing at him.
He glared at me, “Were you trying to kill me?!”
I gasped, “How could you say that to me, brother dear? I was only trying to help you sleep longer!” And I broke into another laughing fit. The joke was my personal favorite.
Ravi finally stopped coughing and he was now breathing normally. “One day, I’ll wake up earlier than you and I will strangle you with all my might.”
I gave him a blank stare, “Yeah, nice threat, bro. But first, you have to take me shopping. I’ll prepare myself now, please do the same?”
He just sighed and obediently went inside the bathroom.
