The only sound that broke the silence in the empty classroom was the sound of her pen scratching against the notebook as she started doing the class register. It was only when she reached his name that a small smile appeared on her face.Akashi Seijuro
It was difficult to describe Akashi with mere words. He far exceeded his peers in both academics and sports, and excelled in everything he did. He was someone people could only aspire to be – someone who existed on a whole other level; leaps and bounds ahead of others.
He's perfect, she thought fondly as she spelled out his name on paper.
Even after months of being together, the fact that Akashi was willing to reach out and open his heart to her was surreal. Of all the people he could choose, he ended up picking her. He accepted all her flaws and insecurities with a smile and never stopped trying to break down the many walls that surrounded her heart. No matter how hard she tried to distance herself from him, he was always there for her whenever she needed him. Why he hasn't left her yet, she had no idea.
He was perfection while she was just... broken.
"You're still here?"
[Name] flinched in shock, nearly dropping her pen as she turned to face the person who was leaning against the door, an amused smile playing on his lips.
"A-Akashi-kun... "
The redhead male frowned slightly as he walked towards her table, turning a chair around so he could sit facing her. "I told you not to call me that. We've been dating for over three months. It's about time you got used to calling me by my first name."
"Sei-kun?" She peeked at him with a sheepish smile. She was so used to speaking formally to her friends and peers that she couldn't help but feel a tinge of embarrassment whenever she addressed him so familiarly.
"That's better," he grinned, before taking a gander at the book laid out on the table. "Do you need help?"
"It's fine, I'm almost done."
Akashi let out a hum as he leaned back against the chair, watching her silently as she hurried to finish her work. He seemed to be in a good mood, she noticed.
"Oh right. I thought you were going home after basketball practice today," she glanced at him, "why did you come back to class?"
"I came back for you, of course. Let's go home together."
His words struck a chord in her heart.
She really didn't deserve him...
Gripping her pen tightly, she muttered quietly, "okay."
I can see the pain behind your eyes
It's been there for quite awhile
I just wanna be the one to remind you what it is to smile
I would like to show you what true love can really doThe sun painted the horizon in warm, vibrant colours as he walked her home. But despite the beauty that surrounded them, [Name] felt anything but that. All she could feel was this overwhelming sense of worthlessness each time she caught sight of Akashi bathed in such splendour.
Her emotions had not gone unnoticed by him. Throughout their entire journey back she had been even more quiet than usual, lost in thought as she trailed behind him.
"[Name]," he spoke, snapping her out of her daze to finally realise that they had taken a detour to the park. "You've been acting strangely. What's wrong?"
She matched his pace as they came to a stop, forcing a smile on her face as she touched his hand. "It's nothing, Sei-kun. I'm just a little tired today. I'll be fine –"
"Don't lie to me." His gaze was unwavering as he stared at her. "Tell me what's wrong."
"Sei-kun..." Letting her hand fall back to her side, her voice dropped to a whisper. "Let's break up."
"... I refuse."
"...Akashi-kun... please..."
His heart clenched when he saw the pain in her eyes. Holding onto her wrist, he asked, "Why are you breaking up with me?"
"..."
"[Name]..."
"... I'm sorry... I ... I just... we'll probably break up in the future so I thought it'd be best if we just ended it now..."
The grip he had on her hand tightened; not enough to hurt her, but enough to make her look him in his livid, heterochromatic eyes. "And what makes you so certain our relationship won't last?"
"You're amazing, Akashi-kun," she smiled sadly, "you really are. And there are so many girls out there who are far better than me who's actually worthy of your affection... I don't deserve you...
"... You deserve someone better than me..."
"You fool," he muttered under his breath before tilting her head up to make her look into his eyes. "Do you love me?"
"W-What?"
"I asked if you love me. Tell me the truth, [Name]."
"I... I do..."
Akashi let out a deep breath he didn't even know he was holding and immediately took her into his arms, holding her closely to his chest despite her protests.
"Then don't say another word..." His spoke quietly against her hair. "I'm dating you because I'm in love with you and I'm not going to allow anyone – not even you – end this relationship because of a reason as ridiculous as thinking that I 'deserve someone better'."
A tear started rolling down her cheek and she finally gave in, letting herself lean into him, gripping the front of his shirt. "I'm sorry."
He sighed, hugging her tightly. "I'll make you trust me; trust us. I promise I'll make you smile and be happy, so please... just let me love you."
Of all the people in his life, no one could make his heart race quite as much as she could, and when he heard her faint reply amidst her quiet sobs, he felt like he could finally breath properly again.
"...okay..."
Let me love you
And I will love you
Until you learn to love yourself.
Let me love you
I know your trouble
Don't be afraid, oh, I can help
