Gisella's POV

I woke up in a hospital bed and the sound of a heart monitor. I had no idea how I had gotten there except that I was in the car with Vinny and we were talking about baby cannibalism. I remember Vinny looking over at me, taking his eyes off the road, which was pretty stupid on his part. And then black.

"GiGi!" My mother almost screamed from the qaiting room. She rushed right in, taking my hand in hers. "I thought you were dead! How do you feel? Thirsty? I can call the nurse if you'd like. How do you feel? I've already asked that question, but really. Are you okay?"
"Mama, I'm fine. Where's Vinny?" She looked at me with a confused look. "The cute boy I was with."
"Oh, sweetie, he's still in the ICU. He got the brunt of the blow. The car hit his side and flipped you two. You're lucky to be alive because of him."
"Okay, but mom. When can I see him?"
She looked at me for a long time with her big blue eyes. I got my eyes from my deadbeat dad and I can say happily they're the only things I got from him.
"Gi, you just woke up. Take some time to rest. When you wake up again, maybe."
With that, I slumped down in bed and waited for the time I would Vincenzo again.

Vinny's POV

Man, my head hurts. I opened my eyes and
What the heck?
Why does my vision look so messed up?
Why does my head hurt?
I ran my hand through my hair, but my hand grazes some bumpy ridges around the side of my head. What the heck?
I pressed the call button for the nurse and realized that Balz was in the room asleep. Why is he here? Why is he the only one?
The nurse walked in with a smile. I'm pretty sure they're all supposed to, but my head was killing me so I didn't dwell on that. She looked at the board across from my hospital bed that held all the information of my stay on it. It had emergency contact numbers, most of them were the band. I'm still not sure how anyone found out we were here.
"Mr. ..." She trailed off, squinting at the board. I could hear Balz shifting in the chair he was in and yawning.
"Mauro," I said in a groggy voice, "But you can call me Vinny."
"Ah, alright. Well, Vinny, I have good news and bad news, but I should go grab the doctor before I spill the beans on this." Its like she was the pediatric doctor I saw when I was three years old and I hurt my pinky from drumming. She returned with the doctor shortly after.
"Doctor Ackerman, that's my name. And relieving your pain is my game. But first, can you tell me what you remember?"
Are you kidding me? He's the doctor that has taken care of me since I've been here?
"I was with my girlfriend and we got hit by something?"
He nodded. "Well, yes. You got hit by something. A large something. It was a Jeep Cherokee and those are very not nice to come in contact with. Figuratively and literally." He said, smiling at his own joke. Okay maybe he wasn't so bad.
"Is everything okay with Vinny?" Balz asked from his chair, rubbing his eyes.
"Well, that's the good news. He's gonna live."
What's the bad news?" I asked him. I could feel my stomach growing a huge knot in it. Is this why my vision is messed up?
"The bad news is that there was so much shrapnel coming off the car that a lot went into your eye and it was repairable. So we had to remove it." The doctor said, frowning.
I sat back in shock. I only have one eye. The only brightside is that I have a killer Halloween costume for the rest of my life.
"Where's Gisella? My girlfriend? The girl with purple hair. Is she alright? I need to know she's alright. Oh God. This is my fault." I started to freak out. I messed this all up. If I had looked at the road I could have seen it.
"She's still sleeping, but would you like to go to her room? It's not far from here. If you take the wheelchair." The nurse answered with the wheelchair in hand.
"But all I did was lose an eye. I'm Carl from The Walking Dead not Herschel." I replied.
She giggled at that. At least I still have my sense of humor. "Sometimes when patients lose an eye, their depth perception is challenged and they have a greater risk of injuring themselves. I'll push you over to her room now, if you'd like." She offered.
I looked at Balz and he nodded for me to go ahead.
