Luke's pov

Every morning at 1:35 Ashton and I met on our roof overhangs and talked about nothing and everything at the same time. It was currently 1:38 and I had made my way onto the meeting place when the last second striked for 1:35. I Had sat I front of my clock, counting each second.

"Well, Luke seeing as we're best friends now. We must tell each other our deep dark secrets." He tapped his finger together. "Ashton, I told you my only exciting life story and that was literally the first day we met." I scoffed.

"There has to be something else in that little head of yours." He poked at the side of his temple. Every secret or story I ever had, started with Calum. "One time when I was with Calum at the beach, a jellyfish stung me on the bum and a lifeguard said that he would have to pee on the spot because it would sterilize it." I said in a swift breath.

"That was personal." Ashton blinked

"And every time we told the story, people would look at us like we were crazy and thought that we were into that weird pee kink." I laughed, recalling when Calum and I would hide from his parents and laugh about that moment almost every night after it happened.

"You aren't into that are you?" Ashton asked me with a curious expression.

"No, of course not" I laughed

"Good, I would've had to Kink-shame you" he nodded. We laughed until our chests hurt.

We heard a man call for Ashton, who I was assuming was his father. "Hold on, Lukey I'll be back" he climbed through his window and I waited staring up at the sky.

"Sorry, I had to take some meds, I almost forgot to take them." He apologized.

"Nah it's fine. What do you need to take meds for? It's past midnight" I asked him. "Oh. It's nothing, just...ADHD." Ashton pulled his lips in a tight line. The atmosphere changed. It felt like the way everyone was staring at me the day they told me that Calum had died. The betrayal and the lies.

I didn't want to think Ashton was lying to me about something as silly as medication he'd been taking. It wasn't like we were dating or anything.

"Oh." Is how I responded.

The tension was excruciating and I couldn't find something to say to lighten it.

"So" Ashton finally spoke up. "Who do you live with?" He asked. "I live with my mom. My dad left and my brothers are jerks and don't talk to me anymore." I shrugged simply. "What about you?"

"My parents and my brother and sister." I nodded.

There was a figure by the window and I heard someone say "Ashton, honey, I need to talk to you." The woman said. "Just a minute mom." He excused her.

"One more time." He smiled. I waited again and I heard voices being raised. I was concerned but all-in-all, every boy picks a fight with his parents.

Bits and pieces of conversation were heard. "-when?" And "May 10th" were what stood out the most with a closed window blocking the sound. Ashton began reopening his window when he stopped halfway and very softly I heard the voices "-gonna tell him?" I heard come from Ashton's mother. "...I don't- I don't think it's time-.....no." I heard him answer weakly. "Are you sure that's the right decision?" She asked
"No." And with that he was back through the window.

"Uh. Ashton I can hear my mom coming. I have to go." I spoke sadly. His eyes were red and shiny and I hated to leave him.

"Do you have to?" He was so quiet I don't even think the wind could hear.

"Yes" I tried to respond strongly but my voice faltered.

I was lying.
