Overnight(DIKY sequel)

The letter (Chapter 7)

A/N I know a certain character hasn't been making much of an appearance so that's about to change ;)

Enjoy this really overdue update

By the time Sweeney woke up the next morning he noticed Nellie was absent from the bed, meaning she must have gotten up already. This wasn't that new as she always got up early to prepare the shop for the day and he was never a morning person anyway but he still found it a little strange as the last few mornings she'd lay in with him. So why was she gone now?

The answer to his question was soon revealed when he glanced up at the alarm clock on the bedside table and noticed that it was almost 11am. He'd slept in almost all morning.

He scrambled out of bed and hurriedly changed into a clean version of his usual outfit, dumping the other set on the floor then blundering downstairs into the shop where Nellie was preparing for opening.

She smiled at the sight of the disorientated and ruffled looking barber "You really slept in this morning love." she chuckled as she wiped the counter clean.

Sweeney rubbed his eyes "Yeah..it's weird, I never sleep like that..I actually feel pretty good." usually in the morning he felt half asleep and awful until he'd had some coffee or gin but the extra sleep had worked some miracle and he actually felt awake and in a relatively good mood.

Nellie put the rag down and walked over to Sweeney's side and reached up to give him a kiss on the cheek which he accepted awkwardly, still not used to this whole affection thing "Well I think it's great. You look good too, extra sleep will be good for you after you sleep depriving yourself these past months."

The barber nodded in agreement and sat down at a booth, glancing outside at the rare sunny day that was already in full swing "Where's the boy?" he asked, having noticed the absence of Daniel as soon as he came down.

"He's out playing with some friends." Eleanor replied, setting down a plate in front of Sweeney containing eggs and toast "I think it's nice for him to be able to be a kid again after the awful start he had."

Once again he nodded in agreement then looked down at the meal. As well as affection and sleeping, eating was something he was still getting used to too. Beforehand he rarely did any of those things but now he was slowly becoming less of the unhuman monster he used to be and more like a proper human. Therefore he ate the meal slowly, savouring every mouthful.

"This came for you earlier in the post." Eleanor suddenly said after a moments silence and handed a letter to Sweeney who put his fork down and examined it, heart leaping as he noticed a French stamp on it.

Could it be? 

Johanna was trying to get in contact with him?

He tore the letter open as fast as he could and pulled out a crisp, white letter written in blue ink, dark eyes darting over the paper as he read:

Dear Mr Todd,

I am writing to thank you for aiding me in helping Johanna escape from that awful judge. I realized I never thanked you properly and left quite suddenly which I apologize for but I wanted to leave as soon as possible to avoid getting caught by any other of Turpin's men. 

To show that I truly am sorry about this I want to invite you and Mrs Lovett to me and Johanna's new home in Paris next week. I know it's quite short notice but I hope you will come, Johanna is eager to meet you both again.

Our address is enclosed as are three ferry tickets to Paris. I have heard that you and Mrs Lovett have taken in a child since we left which is wonderful news and I hope they could join you both too, Johanna loves children.

Sweeney's eyes widened and his mouth dropped open, causing Eleanor to give him a look, slightly worried it was bad news "What is it love? Nothing bad I hope." She watched the barber pull out three tickets and a scrap of paper with an address scrawled on it.

After he'd finally taken it in Sweeney spoke at last "J-Johanna..Anthony..they've..invited us to their..new h-house in Paris.." 

A/N Sorry this is short but this chapter would be really long if I kept going so the next chapter will just be longer instead.

Wow, so Sweeney may finally get to see Johanna again! Exciting!

Hope you enjoyed and I really will try to updated this fanfic more often so I don't leave you guys hanging again.
