Overnight(DIKY sequel)

Caring (Chapter 2)

After his bath Nellie, Sweeney and Daniel had a nice dinner, cooked by Nellie herself which received many compliments from Daniel and Sweeney, making her pink in the face from pride.

It was now 10pm and Sweeney was feeling thoroughly tired out even though it wasn't that late yet, due to how emotionally drained he was from all that had happened today; it was overwhelming.

Nellie glanced over at Daniel and saw that the boy had fallen asleep due to being so tired, it was past his bedtime anyway so she decided to wake him and put him to bed otherwise he'd get neck ache from sleeping like that all night.

"Daniel? Wake up love you need to go to bed." She whispered and gently shook his arm.

Daniel let out a quiet groan as he opened his eyes, slowly waking up with a yawn "What's goin' on?" He asked sleepily, rubbing his eyes and Nellie smiled affectionately at him "You fell asleep downstairs love, you need to go to bed." She told him in a soft voice and Daniel nodded and stumbled upstairs followed by Nellie, not bothering to brush his teeth and use the toilet like he usually did before bed due to how tired he was and he simply got changed into his pyjamas, cuddled up to his stuffed dog-which he still had but was cleaner due to Nellie convincing him to let her wash it-and let Nellie read him a story before he fell asleep.

When she'd finished the story Daniel was asleep and she smiled lovingly at him before placing the book down on the bedside table and kissing his forehead.

"That was a good story." Someone suddenly commented from the doorway and Nellie turned around to face the voice, jumping when she saw Sweeney stood there in the shadows. "Blimey Sweeney you gave me a fright! How long have you been standing there?" She demanded but in a quiet voice so as not to wake Daniel.

Sweeney chuckled quietly at her reaction and lent against the door frame "A while..your voice attracted me here." He said with a sweet smile which made Nellie practically melt, her annoyance fading away.

"W..well I'm glad you liked it.." She replied shyly before walking towards the doorway and turning the light off. "Goodnight love." She whispered to Daniel's sleeping form before unexpectedly hearing the barber chime in "G'night lad."

Nellie turned to him with a surprised expression "You seem to be becoming quite caring towards the boy Mr T." She commented which made Sweeney turn nervous as he had secretly been starting to see the boy as more of a son and was actually starting to care about him and having Nellie say it out loud embarrassed and unnerved him because he still felt the concept of having another child-even if it wasn't actually his-weird but slightly enjoyable. 

As much as he'd liked having a little girl part of him wanted a son too so when Daniel came along he automatically wasn't as horrible to him as he'd been to most people when he first met them, because he felt a sort of connection between them.

"U..um..I guess it seems like that but I mean he's your son so I have to be nice to him." He quickly lied and Nellie giggled, not believing him but she dropped the subject for now, not wanting Sweeney to get annoyed at her if she kept bugging him about it as he still had a pretty bad temper and no matter how much he loved Nellie she could still get on his bad side if she did something wrong, but Sweeney had eased up a little now and it wasn't as easy to annoy him which Nellie was relieved about as she couldn't stand Sweeney being mad at her.

The couple then returned downstairs and sat at a booth.

Nellie suggested that they both have some tea to relax them and because there was a slight chill in the air today due to autumn starting to make an appearance.
Sweeney nodded in agreement and sat there silently looking out the window as rain drops started to drip down the windows and he sighed softly. Of course it was raining, this was London it was always raining and he was getting quite sick of rain.
