Chapter Eight

"So, that's how it is, huh?" Owen said to the Rapters, taking a step to the Rapter in front of him. He held his hands out in front of him, the Rapter watching him cautiously. "Easy...Easy...That's it, good girl.." He said as he reached out to the camera atop it's head and undid it, showing her he was on her side.

After a moment, we heard a loud roar and the ground started to shake with each step the unknown dinosaur made. We all looked up, including the Rapters, and saw the big white dinosaur that had started this whole mess. Claire had mentioned it was called the Indominous Rex, or I-Rex for short. It roared again and the Rapters screeched back at it, communicating.

The Rapters looked back at Owen, then they all turned on the I-Rex and snarled at it, once again on our side. The I-Rex roared in anger, and the Rapters screeched back. It came at the Rapters, kicking one of them, I think Blue, and sending her into a wall. The I-Rex roared again, making the two other Rapter siblings squawk at it. They got in a stance and when Owen was ready, he let out a whistle, letting the Rapters attack the I-Rex.

As they fought, everyone but Owen ran over to a tiny little gift shop while Owen shot at the I-Rex with his gun.

"We need more.." Gray said, causing us to all look at him confused.

"More what?" Claire asked her youngest nephew.

"More teeth." He said, and a Claire seemed to get an idea.

"I'll be back." Claire said, making me look over at her with wide eyes.

"Wait a second-" I started but she was already climbing out of the booth. "Claire!" I yelled but she was already too far away to hear me.

"Don't worry, she said she'd be back. Until then, we should move to a safer location." Paige said, and I nodded while releasing a shaky breath.

"We need to get inside a sturdier building." Gray said.

"We can't just leave Owen out there. We gotta help him." I said, and Zach placed his hand on my shoulder.

"He'll be fine, Exon. Besides, I'm not letting you get yourself killed." Zach said, and I gave him a dead panned look, which he smirked at a little.

"I'm not that clumsy, sheesh." I said sarcastically, and he chuckled a little.

"Come on, we need you more than he needs you." Zach said and I finally agreed with him, but before we could leave for another building Owen hopped over the counter and squatted in front of us. He held his finger to his lips, signalling for us to stay quiet. Behind him, I saw the I-Rex's snout slowly moving toward us, it's shadow casting over all of us.

Suddenly, it smashed its snout into our little gift shop and we all scream, except for Owen who had spread his arms wide in front of us, protecting us. We all scooted as far away as we could from it until our backs hit a wall. We were silent, except for some heavy breathing, and then we screamed again when a claw broke through the wall in front of us. It snagged onto Gray's pouch and started pulling him to it, but we all grabbed onto him and pulled him back.

"The clasp!" Paige yelled, and Grey's eyes widened more as he moves his hand to the clasp on his pouch, undoing it quickly. The I-Rex's claw retracted and we pulled Gray back to us, hugging him.

A few moments later, we felt the ground shaking from the distance, and Owen stood up slowly to see what it was. I copied him, as did Zach, and I gasped at the sight in front of me. It was Claire, running with a flare in her hand and a T-Rex running behind her. She still had her heels on too. Damn, I would have went barefoot than in those things. She threw the flare at the I-Rex when she was close enough to, bring its attention to the flare, and the T-Rex bringing her attention to the I-Rex.

Claire dropped to the ground as the T-Rex ran at the I-Rex. Claire looked over at us, then hid behind a piece of a building that had fallen. We stared at the two Rex's fighting, shocked. The I-Rex was starting to win the fight, pinning the T-Rex to the ground. They were slowly making their way to us, and before we knew it one of them crashed through one of our walls. I screamed, as did Paige and Gray. Owen looked from the fight to Claire again, and then she screamed at us.

"Run!" She screamed, and Owen looked over at us.

"Go, go!" He yelled, and we all started running through the broken wall, heading for Claire. Just as we were about to reach her, one of the Rex's tails came swinging at me and Gray. I shoved him forward, making him bump into Paige and Zach, and I ducked and turned in a different direction just as the tail flew over my head, missing me by an inch. I ended up rolling and skidding to a stop behind another building.

"Exon!" I heard Zach yell, and I peaked around the wall to see him wide eyed and looking like he's about to have a panic attack.

"I'm alright! Just make sure my sister is okay, okay!?" I yelled to him, and I saw his face soften slightly at hearing my voice, but he still looked worried. I heard a screech and looked to see a Rapter looking at me. I shrieked, then was completely silent so I wouldn't spook her.

"Exon!" I heard Zach yell again, probably because he heard me shriek. The Rapter in front of me got closer and sniffed me, and I felt a tear fall from my eye.

Please.. I can't die here.. I have to protect Paige. I have to protect Gray and Zach. I have to protect them!

I closed my eyes and turned my face to the side, waiting for her to attack me. But, she never did. She screeched again and ran past me, running at the I-Rex. I opened my eyes and felt more tears escape from them, falling down my cheeks and leaving little trails against my dirt covered skin.

I quickly wiped my eyes and stood up, then looked around to see the Rapter that I thought was going to be my end, Blue I think because of the blue stripes she had, jumped on the I-Rex, biting on its back and clawing its neck, making her roar in pain. While Blue was distracting the I-Rex, the T-Rex got up from under it and charged at it, biting its neck and pushing it over, hitting two buildings and causing explosions.

I see Owen and the others run to another building, but Zach is slower because he keeps looking over where I am to see if I'm okay. I lean out a bit more, then quickly run over to the building as well after they all had gotten inside. Once at the building I jumped through a hole in the wall and rolled on the floor. I saw Paige start crying at seeing I was okay, and I started to cry as well, but I tried to hide it. I saw Zach as well, and he looked relieved to see me, alive and unharmed. I scrambled over to them, and I pulled my sister to me in a bear hug. She was crying and I let out a quiet sob and I ran my hand through her tangled hair.

"I thought I lost you.." Paige croaked, and I let another sob escape my lips.

"Never." I whispered to her, squeezing her a bit more. I knew that the others were looking at us, probably with sad smiles on their faces. Once Paige I release each other from our hug, I was being pulled into another hug. My head hit their chest and I could tell immediately who it was. I instinctively wrapped my arms around his waist, and buried my face into his shirt, closing my eyes tightly. He had his arms wrapped around my waist, and I felt his face being buried in my shoulder. He was trembling, and I hugged him tighter, almost letting another sob out.

"You're okay.." I heard him whisper, he sounded like he was about to cry. I nodded my head and let a shaky laugh escape my lips.

"Of course I am, dork.." I whispered back, making him just hold me tighter. We pulled apart when we heard Blue screech and get thrown into a building, while the T-Rex tackled the I-Rex into the fence surrounding the Mosasouraus.' enclosure. Just as the I-Rex recovered and stood up, the Mosasouraus emerged out of the water and bit the I-Rex by its neck and back, dragging it back into the water with it.

It was over.

We saw the T-Rex and Blue communicate, and then the T-Rex walked away and Blue turned back to us. We walked out of the shop, me clinging onto Zach's arm and walking right beside him. Owen walked a little ahead of us and stopped a few feet from Blue. She tilted her while looking at him, and he shook his head in response, telling her her work as done. At that, Blue took off running down the plaza.
