Redney One-Shots

1st Grade

"Barney" Red said happily to his friend, "look over here!" Barney got up from the bright blue bench and headed towards Red.

It was the beginning of first grade and last year was when their friendship blossomed. They weren't the best of friends from the start, but some friends don't always start out great. The only reason they had meet last year is because they were assigned to work together in most of the schools fun projects.

Kindergarten was when their nicknames were made. John decided on the nickname Barney since that was his favorite show at the time. Michael choose Red since that's his favorite color.

"Barney, Barney! Look at this!" Red yelled across the playground. "Alright's I'ms coming! Hold on!" Barney yelled back. When he finally arrived to his friend, Barney was out of breath. "What's" Barney breathed relaxing "is it?" Red then grabbed his hand and looked in his eyes.

Red opened Barney's hand and placed his other hand in his palm. Then Red opened his own hand letting the cold solid object sit in Barney's hand.

After moving his hand away Barney looked at the object closer and smiled. "It's a diamond! Do you like it, I found it just for you!" Red said excitedly. Barney glared at the fake plastic diamond. It looked like it chipped off someones fancy belt after sliding onto the concrete when we stretched at the beginning of recess. The sun was shining brightly; making the fake diamond shine colors of the rainbow. Barney looked up from the diamond and back to Red who was inches close to Barney. "I's love it" he said hugging his red haired friend in thanks for his present.

Red hugged back tightly smiling. Once we pulled away Barney put the diamond in his pocket and kept a mental note to put his gift somewhere safe when he got home.

"Hey do you want to play tag?" Red asked; his face showing that he eagerly wanted his friend to say yes. "Of's course dirt" Barney replayed.
"Tag, you's it!" He said after dashing off. Red was struck with surprise, then started to close up on Barney. Sadly for Red, Barney was faster and ran further. He continued running until Red lost sight of him. He looked under slides, around trees, and even got onto a tree to see better. Though he had to get down since the teachers would see him and tell Red to not climb the trees and he'll hurt himself.

The game started feeling like a game of hide and seek instead of tag now. Only a few moments have passed, yet Red felt so lost. "Barney!" He called out again, but to no avail.
"Barney, I give up! You will!" Red yelled out desperately to find his friend. "Barney."He said as he calls got quieter. "John..."

He walked over and sat on the empty swing set. Red stated feeling anxious for Barney to stand by him. Talk to him and make his happy again. Red started feeling like Barney had just abandoned him for someone better. He felt betrayed for giving Barney a meaningful gift right after he would just run off with it and probably never look at it again. As Red kept think of all these negative thoughts his eyes slowly started to tear up. The griped the swings chains tightly but felt as if he couldn't hold back the temptation to cry a river.

"Boo!"

Red yelled lightly and turned to face the person he's been looking for. "I's was waiting forever, so I's just thoughts you's would have's given's up by' now." Barney said as Red was too focused on his friend being in front of his too even hide his puffy wet eyes. Without a word he hugged Barney with all his might and reached in his friends pocket. Pulling back Red pulled his found diamond it of Barney's pocket relived he didn't just throw it away or give it to anyone.

"I's think you's broke my everything" Barney said putting his hands on his knees and laughed. Red then gave Barney back his gift only letting one tear escape his closed blurry eyes. "Are's you's okay Red?" Barney asked concerned. "Yeah," Red said "I just thought that maybe you didn't want to be with and you went awa-" Barney didn't let his finish.

"Hey! Don't you's ever think's that. I would never do's anything likes that" Barney said grabbing Red's hands tightly.

"I's love you" Barney said directly looking deeply into Red's eyes. Both their hearts beat at a fast pace. "I love you to Barney" Red said he hugged him once again. "Let's go get's some water and sits down" Barney recommend. "Yeah come on" I agreed with my voice still recovering from crying to myself. "And no's more tag unless I's, am, with's, you." Barney
said. "Ok I promise" I reply and we do a pinky promise to make sure we keep it. I laughed with his as we walked together towered the water fountain.

And he made sure he waited for me.
