The soul was almost a good 10 feet above the ground now. The only way to capture it was by climbing on to the roof of the house near me. Without wasting more time, I use all my power to jump. It wasn't enough, though. I couldn't reach that far. I try again, and this time I could catch hold of the corner of the roof. I pull myself up and stand on my feet, fiddling with the contents of my bag to find an extra flask. Aha! Here it is!. I open it up and move towards the edge, closer to the soul. It immediately starts getting sucked inside. I sigh in relief. That was close.
After doing my job, I get down on the ground. Realizing that I've already wasted a lot of time, I start running towards the headquarters. I hope I'm the first one to reach.
As I run through the woods, I keep praying to be the first one to complete the task. I slow down when I see the old, rusty gate infront of me. I quickly open it and walk inside. I turn around the corner where the Elders would be waiting.
To say that I was surprised when I saw what was infront of me, would be an understatement. Standing there, with the Elders, were Andrea and Blake. They'd completed their task before me!
Exhaling angrily, I walked forward. I wasn't angry at them, I was angry at myself. I should've been faster. I greeted the Elders as I stood before them. They smiled at me. "Congratulations, you've passed your exam!"
I licked my lips before speaking. "What does it matter? I finished third. I performed horribly!" I said as a tear rolled down my cheek.
"That's for us to decide." John, one of the Elders, said. I just nodded my head in response. All the remaining students had already joined us now, after completing their own task.
"Now, for the results!" David, another Elder, announced loudly. "Andrea, you were the first one to complete the task, so you obviously get selected for the First Parallel!" He said with a smile. Everyone cheered for her. She was a pretty good trainer, if you ask me. But I still think that I'm better.
As the remaining results were announced, I got impatient. Shouldn't my result be announced before their's? I finished before them, for God's sake!
After about half an hour, I was the only trainer standing there. The Elders were discussing something amongst themselves. I cleared my throat to get their attention. "Umm, what's wrong, sir? Why hasn't my result been announced yet?" I asked, nervousness clear on my face. "Yes, about that. You need to come with us." John said. I gave him a questioning look. "Where do I need to go?" I asked. John looked at his companions before nodding his head and turning towards me. "To the Master." he stated in an even tone. I gasped. "Master?! Why? What did I do? I'm really sorry if I made a mistake, please just-" I couldn't complete my sentence because I was interrupted by David. "Stop! You haven't done anything wrong. You need to see him because.." he paused, unsure of whether to tell me or not. "Because?" I asked, shivering a little. "Because he has decided your fate. He has your result." David replied. "What!" I exclaimed out of fear. Oh, this wasn't good. Not at all good. Master Reaper never, ever, decides anybody's fate. He hardly ever interacts with anyone. Even if he does, it's with the Elders. Never with the Trainers. Oh my god! I'm screwed!
