Arden's POV
It'd been a week since my undeniably awkward encounter with Luke, yet he'd seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth. He'd previously told me that he had been in the park (as had I) one and off for the past month-yet whenever I went recently he was never there.
Although I'd never admit it, due to being a stubborn ass, I was rather concerned about his wellbeing and a part of me always hoped to see his crooked smile again: However this was the real world and Luke was 19 years old,he was perfectly capable of looking after himself.
So I tried to keep my thoughts of him to a minimum. Also I myself wasn't having the easiest of weeks. After finally completing my portfolio I had managed to scramble together an interview for an illustrator at a child's book company. God it was not a fun experience.
I paced down the busy pavement avoiding the people, wanting to get as far away from there as I could. Shaking my head as the memory began to replay in my mind, looking for alternative scenarios it could've ended- but thinking back on it now there was no other way the interview could've gone really.
*flashback*
I already felt out of place as soon as I entered the building. Almost in unison half of the office floor seemed to be simultaneously judging me , fresh meat. What a welcoming place I thought before greeting a rather jolly women in her mid 30's entering her office. After a quick chat , as well as briefly glancing over my drawings she smiled rigidly before clearing her throat.
'You're an exceedingly talented young girl , but please don't be discouraged when i say this. Your drawings do not seem to portray any life experience or any connection behind them. I know I must seem rather picky love-but take my advice. Go and experience more. Do what makes you happy - because trust me right now you don't want to be stuck in an office as I can see in your eyes it's not where your true intentions lie."
*End Flashback*
My eyes began to water at the emotionally scarring memory and a few rouge tears made there way down my cheeks. Life experience? Life experience? What the hell does that even mean!
If she meant i had to represent something personal what do I draw a McDonald's sign to show my healthy lifestyle? An eyeliner pencil to show how i can't put on makeup without blinding myself? I mean seriously.
I let out a quiet sob which made a business man grimace , before hurrying away - And if things couldn't get any more cliché it began to freaking rain.
"Are you kidding me? Why today!" I yelled up at the sky. The world really was not on my side at all.
I regreted wearing a thin flannel and jeans because in a matter of seconds I was soaked through , my clothes now sticking to me. Not that it would make much of a difference , I used my portfolio as a makeshift umbrella before sprinting further away making a left turn into the nearest form of shelter.
The rain was now coming down hard as a clap of thunder rung through the empty street. Spluttering I pulled open the door of the nearest corner shop , the sound of a bell chiming making me jump as the door slammed shut. Silent tears dripped onto my black muscle tee mixed with rain and I sniffled looking around me.
The room was filled with a range of vintage guitars and assorted vinyl racks as well as recent CDs.If I wasn't having a slight meltdown I most likely would be scouring the vinyls for any rolling stones or My Chemical Romance but you know, clearly my luck had other thoughts.
"Hi how can I help- Arden what happened ?" Lukes familliar voice made me turn around swiftly. Really of all the music shops I could've walked into. After seeing my pufy eyes he quickly pulled my shivering body into a hug as I cryed softly.
5 minutes had passed and my breathing began to steady, sniffling I wiped my eyes after realising how much of a wreck I must look to him.
"S-sorry i just haven't had such a g-good day" i smiled gesturing to my soaked appearance. Luke chuckled before offering me his own black denim jacket which I silently thanked him for.
"Thats a bit of an understatement princess. Can you tell me what happened ?" He smiled putting an arm on my shoulder.
I then went on to rant to Luke about my nightmare of a day as he nodded, listening intently.
"S-so thats my day . It's been g-great- despite the fact I-i haven't lived my life right according to some people and am a r-robotic person that can't express themselves in their work" I muttered sarcastically my head now leaning on Lukes arm.
"You know what I think?" He paused searching my face for an answer.
"That I look like I've b-been hit by a b-bus?" I winced catching a glimpse of my reflection in a vinyl. My mascara had ran slightly making me look like a raccoon , my cheeks and eyes were both puffy and stained red from tears.
"Nope.I think you're an amazing person that deserves better .You're 19 you're not going to have travelled the world yet or wrote a book and crap. I mean honestly what does she expect you to say you're a teen mum? You're still living your life and that's ok because you've got so much to say still." He smiled.
"H-how can such a cocky b-boy become so genuine in a matter of seconds?" I laughed making him pout.
"When did you get so sassy" Luke smirked down at me. I scoffed rolling my eyes at his bluntness.
"Hmm. Probably when my mum and dad w-wanted to teach me that life wasn't fair in the beginning by giving me a name that I'd n-never find on k-key chains and a name that Starbucks are never going to pronounce right." We both paused to laugh at my sassy reply.
"W-what about you skywalker? Your name g-got any meaning ? " I smirked raising my eyebrows challenging him. He shifted in his seat scratching the back of his neck nervously.
"Your going to laugh." I rolled my eyes reassuring him i wouldn't. "Fine. My dad chose Luke purely so he could say 'luke i am your father'." He face palmed straight after subsequently making me giggle.
"W-well it seems kike both of our parents were setting us up to fail" I smiled jokingly.
"You know princess, i think this may be the start of a beautiful friendship". He smiled punching my arm lightly.
