The Little Girl

In my new apartment, the presence is a little girl. And yes, that's the oldest scary story/movie cliche in history, but it's true. Actually, she was in my old apartment as well, and there was also a tall man, I saw them. I know that sounds crazy, but yeah, it's true. Now it's really just the girl. I've told meemaw about her, but meemaw says I should just ignore her and tell her that it's okay; she can get where she needs to be going. If she's a ghost. But, I've tried, and it hasn't worked so far. The scariest thing is that I see her run through the hallway into my room, or meemaw's room, and she giggles. I immediately jump up and go to whichever room I saw her go into and turn on the light. Sometimes I see a fleeting glimpse of her before the light seems to make her disappear. "I saw you!" I yell. I don't know why, but for some reason, I feel her presence slip away more when I say that. There isn't a trace of nervousness or fear in my voice when I say it, only anger. She makes me so mad, scaring me like that, especially when I'm home alone.

One night, I was in meemaw's room, and suddenly, I saw the little girl on the TV screen. I screamed in fright, bringing meemaw hurrying into the room. "What? What's wrong?" She asked. Tears dripped down my face as I pointed to the screen. Meemaw looked, but didn't see her. "She's right there. I can see her. The little girl." I whimpered. I couldn't believe it, I was actually crying just because I was scared. Meemaw pulled me into a hug, stroking my hair and my back. "It's okay. Just ignore her." She said softly, rocking me back and forth like she used to do when I was little. I stared over meemaw's shoulder at the screen. I could still see the little girl's shape there, and I was too terrified to turn around and see if she was on the other side of the bed, which was where she seemed to be standing based on the view on the TV.

I still see the little girl, and I still shout "I saw you!" When I do.
