The Nightmares

These dreams have been recent and recurring.

One night, I had the clearest dream I've ever had.

I woke up in an empty, seemingly abandoned parking garage. There were no cars, no people, and for some reason, I couldn't see past the garage. Somehow, though, I knew it was night time. I looked all around me, then my gaze landed on an elevator. I assumed it went up to the other levels, but I had no way of knowing that for sure. Suddenly, I heard a soft voice start to hum. It was a little girl's voice. The tune was very familiar to me, but I couldn't place where I had heard it, nor could I remember what it was. The voice was directly above me, and yet also directly behind me. It seemed so innocent, and yet there was so much malice. The sinister presence swelled and pressed down on me, and I started to panic. Suddenly, the humming stopped, and was replaced with a high pitched giggle. I immediately took off, racing toward the elevator. I didn't know if it worked, though its doors started to open as I ran toward it, and I couldn't tell if whatever it was was chasing me. Just as I reached the elevator....

....I woke up. That↑ dream is a recurring one, but this next one↓ is one I've had only once.

I woke up in a field of tall grass. In front of me, but a short distance away, was a large tree. I felt oddly peaceful here. Then, a voice resonated from...above me...or maybe in my head. "Where are you at the moment?" It asked. The voice was gentle and soothing, and it seemed like it wanted to help me. "I'm in a field." I said, out loud. "What do you see?" It asked. "I see...grass...and a tree..." I answered. "What do you hear?" The voice questioned. "The wind..." Before, I could only see the wind blow through the tree and the grass. Now, as I said it, I could hear it as well. "And...wind chimes." I couldn't see chimes in the tree, but for some reason I could hear them. "Now, close your eyes, and tell me what you feel." The voice ordered. I obeyed. I could feel the wind touch my skin, gently brushing over me. But, beyond that, I felt something else. A sudden, dark presence. The sinister one that was constantly there. It loomed over me, above me, and behind me. I could feel it breath on me, and I could feel its energy. A tear dropped down my cheek. "What do you feel?" The voice asked. "I don't know...I don't know what it is. It's behind me. I'm scared." I whispered. I knew the thing was drawing on my fear, but I couldn't control my terror. "Kaylie, what's going on? What do you feel? Don't open your eyes yet." I didn't open them, but not because the voice told me not to, because I didn't want to see the thing that loomed behind me. "Please. I don't want to be here anymore." I whimpered. A high-pitched little girl giggle sounded behind me, and I finally opened my eyes.

I woke up in my bed, of course, and not in the field. The thing about these dreams is that I think they're the same thing. Like, the manifest content is different, but the latent content is the same. The little girl giggling, waking up in a place alone, the presence being everywhere. I know it doesn't make much sense, but I think they're actually the same dream, but different.

5/26/17  Update: So I've learned that wind chimes in a dream symbolize tranquility. But,  it can also mean that there is something you need to pay special attention to,  and remember it. This makes so much sense to me now
