"Do you think this year will be any different from the last?" I sighed, readjusting my bag of textbooks.

As nice as it was living in a town where everybody knew you- oh, wait. That wasn't nice. That was annoying. My bad. There was really nothing good about living in a small town. Besides maybe already knowing- nope. That was bad too. It was like being forced to go out with your siblings. Yuck.

"Oh, I hope so." Malory nodded with wide blue eyes, chewing nervously on her pink lip. "Samuel was horrible to me."

I chuckled, shaking my head at her small town thoughts. "That's not what I meant, Mal. I mean, do you think something will shake the town up a little? Maybe the apocalypse will start." Oh I hoped so. Anything to bring some life into this boring place --even if it was the undead.

Malory looked at me with furrowed brows, "Kenna, I don't think you're supposed to wa-"

"Move." A brooding voice suddenly interrupted Malory with a hiss as we were shoved out of the way.

"What the f-" I blinked, falling backwards as my heavy bag began to tip me over. My eyes shot a glare at the rude guy who had looked back just in time to see me land painfully on my butt in the grass. "What the hell, dude?" I growled just as one side of his mouth twitched slightly up in amusement.

His eyes were bright, even in the dark shadow from the building. The green glowed almost unnaturally as he watched me. His hair was messy, the brown almost an orange copper despite his tanned skin, making it clear he was no normal ginger. Most importantly though, I had never seen him before.

I annoyedly got to my feet, brushing my baggy army-green shorts off with a grumble. The first new guy in like ten years and he was an asshole. Just my luck.

"Watch where you're going, jerk." I narrowed my eyes at him, pulling my straight brown hair up into an elastic.

His amused facial expression changed as his eyes darkened. "Watch how you speak to me, girl." His voice came out in a dangerous purr that made my eyes widen and a violent tremble to roll down my spine.

He looked ready to snap me in half. Who was this guy?

My own eyes darkened as I continued to glare at him, not backing down from his threat no matter how evil he looked, "Get an attitude check, boy. You're nobody I'd willingly speak to." I swiftly turned away, attempting to catch up to Malory who left me to go talk to Samuel and Bastian.

My arm was suddenly in his tight grasp, holding me back as he sneered at me, "Do you want to say that again?" His voice once again purred softly, like a lion getting ready to pounce on his prey.

It screamed danger. My brain desperately wanted me to run away. But my heart just wouldn't let me. Call it stubbornness.

"Let. go. of me." I held his sharp unflinching glare as I returned it right back.

His jaw clenched as his eyebrows furrowed in irritation. "Listen to me!" He demanded as if this had never happened to him before.

I laughed, my lips curving up into an amused smile, "Oh, no; you've got the wrong girl if you think I'm going to just sit back and let you order me around." I attempted to pull my arm from his iron grip with one large yank, causing my muscles to pull painfully enough to make me release a sharp whimper and stumble into his hard chest.

His hold was too strong. I couldn't even move my arm an inch. It made my breath hitch in realization as I backed away.

His stubborn face flinched from my pain as his eyes flickered to my now terrible sore arm. His hand slowly released me, confusion clearly written on his face as he looked at his hand, completely ignoring me.

Holding my poor arm, I threw him one last daggering scowl before once again stalking back to my group of friends. My heart was hammering hard in my chest. I had never experienced such strength, even if it was just some jerk trying to make me cower before him.

I would have never admitted it to him, but it scared me.
