~Supernatural~

"Dean, what do you think Heaven is like?" A seven year old Sammy laid staring at the ceiling in the dark and quiet hotel room.

"I dunno, Sammy," Eleven year old Dean replied. "Why would you ask?"

"Remember the case Dad took us on last month?" Sammy turned to face Dean and turned on the lamp on the bedside table. "When we had to go talk to that guy in that church?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"Well, the man at the church told Dad that we shouldn't mess with everything because when people die they go to Heaven and we shouldn't disrupt it."

"Okay, so?" Dean sighed in annoyance. "That pastor hasn't seen half the things we have. Heaven probably isn't even real. Why would there be vengeful spirits if it were?"

"But Dean," Sammy's voice started to grow odd, as if he were about to cry. "Mom died. Where did Mom go?"

Dean didn't know how to answer that question. It hurt him to think about his mother, so very rarely he did, and he had never given any thought into where she was now. He didn't believe in Heaven, but clearly Sammy was holding onto it, so he needed to play along.

"I'm sure it's beautiful there, Sammy." Dean said, closing his eyes. "I bet Mom is having a great time up with the angels."

"Do you think she misses us?"

"Of course she does. She watches us all the time. You know last week when you got an A in your math?"

"Yeah, do you think she was proud of me?"

"I know she was. I'll bet she was smiling and telling all of her angel friends how special you are."

Sammy smiled and wiped away the tears that had formed in his eyes. "I'll bet she's proud of you, too, Dean."

Dean hesitated for a minute. "I don't know, Sammy, I haven't done much for her to be proud of."

"Sure you have. You threw the football perfectly earlier, remember?"

Dean smiled at how naive Sammy was. "Yeah, maybe she was proud of that."

"Do you think she's watching us right now?"

Dean smiled and stood up. "Follow me, Sammy." Dean led Sammy outside and pointed at a star. "You see that star right there?"

"Yeah."

"That's Mom. Whenever that star is shining it means Mom is watching over us."

"I learned in science that stars are always shining."

"Exactly."

Sam and Dean sat staring up at the stars for a while, before Sammy fell asleep and Dean carried him inside. After laying Sammy down, Dean looked out the window at the star. "I love you, Mom." He said, before closing the curtain.
