~Supernatural~

Dean reached for another piece of candy to place in his daughters Easter basket. He grabbed a Reeses cup, Charlie Jo's favourite. As he placed it in between a snickers bar and a cheap plastic egg, memories came flooding over him.

.

He was thirteen years old in a dusty old hotel room. His father had left the previous day, and Sammy was asleep on the couch. Dean called baby Sammy's name a few times to ensure that he was sound asleep before pulling out a brightly coloured basket and candy out of the top cabinet. He smiled gently to himself as he placed the candy and a few small toys one by one into the Easter basket.

Sammy had woken up the next morning and ran over to Dean's bed shouting, "Dean! The Easter bunny came, the Easter bunny came!" Dean smiled childishly as he got up to go watch Sammy rip the contents out of his Easter basket. Sammy's smile was contagious and before he knew it Dean was smiling, too. Little Sammy came over to Dean. "Why didn't he leave anything for you, Dean?"

"I dunno, Sammy," Dean replied, looking around. "Maybe I'm too old." Sammy ran back over and brought Dean a candy bar.

"Here," Sammy said, his smile glowing. "Everyone deserves candy on Easter." Dean had to turn away so Sammy wouldn't see the tears in his eyes.

.

Dean snapped back to reality. That was years ago, that he had stayed up every year just to make little Sammy's day. And now he was doing it for his little girl. Still, he couldn't shake the feeling of happiness that Sam had always brought him on Easter morning, and in that moment he needed to hear Sam's voice. He picked up the phone and dialed, but wasn't surprised when it went to voicemail, since it was late at night. The message tone beeped.

"Hey, Sammy," Dean smiled like he had every Easter when Sam was little. "Happy Easter."
