At home, Brooke was working on her homework when all of a sudden her mom comes in and starts yelling about grades. "Yeah, I know mom. I'm working on it." She said. "Well apparently you need to work harder! What the heck happened to you? You used to be a straight A student!" Her mom said, continuing to berate her. "MOM I'M TRYING! Did you take Precalculus and AP English your junior year of hight school? No! You didn't even take them in college, so stop telling me my grades aren't good enough! I'm working hard, just leave me alone about it already." Brooke yelled. Her mom yelled back louder, but she wasn't listening anymore. All you fucking care about are my grades. You don't even care that I'm up half the night trying to keep them from dropping, she thought to herself.
Things got ugly when her dad came home. Brooke's mom told him that her math grade had dropped to a D and he got really angry. "Why do you have a D!? Are you doing your homework? Do you pay attention in class? I want to know why your grades are dropping." He bombarded her. Well, it couldn't be because my parents make me depressed, now could it! Brooke bit back her sassy remark and instead said as calmly as she could, "I don't know. Precalculus is really hard, I always have a ton of homework, I'm really stressed out, and I need to get to work." She frowned and jammed her earbuds into her ears. She could hear her parents yelling at eachother through the blast of heavy metal, but she did her best to tune them out.
That night, her thoughts kept her awake.
Do they even love me? What's wrong with me? I'm so sick of working so hard and nothing pays off. Why do they have to yell at me all the time? Can't they tell that I've changed? Haven't they noticed how unhappy I am? They argue so much. Do they even love eachother anymore? I'm so lost and confused. God, Jasper, I could really use another one of your hugs...
Thinking about Jasper made her feel a little better. She knew that with the feelings she had for Jasper, she needed to break up with her boyfriend. The problem? He was her first boyfriend and she had never dumped anyone in her life. But she was also tired of being ignored and it dawned on her that she just couldn't do the long distance with him going to another school. Brooke fell asleep contemplating how she would break the news.
| Sorry it's so short, I'm trying to lead up to the next chapter and so this is just kind of a background filler. Thanks for reading! |
