Prelude (unedited)
It was just another ordinary day in the town in which I grew up in, and the place where my parents died. So many years ago by now.
I am Nicole Rose O'Brian. I am a 19 year old High School Graduate of a month, and this is my story.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*One Month Before..... Graduation Day*
"NICOLE! " Rebecca yells from my upstairs bathroom.
"Yeah?" I call from the kitchen, trying to prepare some non-drip food for supper before we head out to our graduation at our high school, Eastfield High.
"Can you come help me with the back?" She calls back, just as I finish the food tray. I carry it upstairs and set the sandwiches and other little snacks on the computer desk that holds my Mac laptop.
"You need me to do you hair? Still?" I sigh, smiling at my best friend, struggling to curl her hair to perfection for this graduation. She knows it's not as important as most graduations go since we are going to University. That graduation is more important to her and I.
She shoots me a playful glare through the mirror as she held the heated wand against her head, hopefully turing the hair that is against it, into the perfect curl.
Rebecca took the wand away without burning herself and watched as her hair fell in a slightly limp curl onto her shoulder. She grumbled unhappily as she set the wand back on the counter, grabbing the brush that was at her side.
I laugh at her expressions as I pick up the wand and brush her hand away from the little cluster of hair. I wrap it slightly tighter around the wand, waited 15-20 seconds before pulling the wand away.
Revealing to Rebecca, the perfect curl.She squealed happily and clapped her hands together like a 5 year old getting candy or a toy they've always wanted.
"Yes Nicole! Now, can you please finish my hair like that?!" She pouted into the mirror, looking at my expression.I nod, and she breaks into another smile, watching me curl her hair in no time flat to her perfection.
I step away when Im finished, setting the wand down beside Rebecca and picking up one of the sandwiches, taking a bite and crunching it to curb my hunger. I groan in satisfaction as I sit on my comfy computer chair.
Rebecca comes out after hair-spraying her hair, and picking up a sandwich as well, before sitting on the floor across from me against the wall.
We eat another 2 sandwiches each before we look at the time and choke at the same time.
"Shit!" I scream through the last little bit of sandwich left in my mouth as I shoot up from my chair.
I swallow the sandwich and run into my walk in closet, pulling out the garment bag that held my dress and another that held Rebecca's dress.
We both bought them a couple months ago when we went to the mall together."I'm going to go brush my teeth, you get your dress on, and then we'll flip, okay?" I ask to her, before unzipping both of our dress bags that lay on my bed.
I see her nod, still eating her sandwich, before turning towards my door and walk into the bathroom.
I yell as I set my hand down... Right on the heated wand.
I hiss as my hand throbs in pain, and I quickly turn on the tap to cold water, before running it under to help the burn.
Rebecca runs in, her hand holding up the dress against her chest, her eyes wild and wide, confused on my outburst.
