Carter's pov

She's severely broken in the inside. She keeps everything all bottled up because she's lonely. I feel so bad for her and I wanna turn her frown into a smile so badly. But how?

"Carter?"

I looked up and saw that we were standing in front of a sign that said 'welcome to Double Rock, California'. I smiled and looked over at the two girls. Jay was smiling as well and Maggie, she was just looking around the area. We begin to walk at a faster pace considering it was now four in the morning, almost five.

"Y'know," Maggie said and I immediately looked at her.

"It sucks that purge night only last for twelve hours." She said and I chuckled under my breath while nodding.

"Seriously." Jay agreed and Maggie giggled a little but stopped quickly. I frowned at her action but shrugged it off as we kept walking. I kept on taking glances at her every few seconds. I don't know, I just felt the need to protect her and check up on her. I walked over to her and she looked up at me. It's been two hours since her breakdown and her eyes are still red but I'm guessing it's from being tired too.

"You alright?" I asked and she nodded with a closed mouth smile. I smiled back down at her before looking straight forward.

One thing I noticed was that in Double Rock, there were a lot more dead bodies on the ground and it stunk.

"This...is gross." Maggie said and I nodded while putting my sweater over my nose. We walked a little longer before we stopped and sat on a bench. All of our feet were killing us.

"Carter is it okay if I uh rest my legs on your lap?" Maggie asked and I nodded before gently grabbing her legs and placing them on my lap. She let out a sigh before leaning her head on Jay's shoulder. Jay smiled at her and Maggie smiled back.

"Where are you from, Jay?" Maggie asked.

"North Carolina." She said while looking up at the light blue sky.

"You miss it there?" Maggie asked and Jay nodded with a small smile.

"That's where my family is." She said and Maggie nodded.

"So why'd you move here, if you don't mind me asking." Maggie said and Jay shrugged making Maggie's head bob up and down.

"Better opportunities." She said and Maggie nodded once more. She removed her legs from my lap and sat fully up.

"Guys I think we should start walking again. It's about that time." Maggie said and me and Jay agreed before standing up and leaving from the bench.

Maggie's pov ✨

We walked away from our little seating area and begin to head back to where our friends were supposed to be. I kept on taking glances over at Carter. His bone structure in his face is absolutely gorgeous. The way his jaw clenches whenever he bites down turns me on so much.

I looked back down at my shoes and kept walking knowing he probably doesn't see me the way I see him. I see him as a person I want to get close with and a person I want to be with for a long time. He probably just sees me as some temporary awkward little girl who has anger issues. I played with the end of my braid as I imagined what my future would be like if Carter stayed with me. We could kiss and cuddle all the time and watch movies.

"Maggie your cheeks are as red as tomatoes and you're smiling to yourself." Jay whispered in my ear, startling me. I looked at her and I could now feel the heat rising in my cheeks. She smirked at me before giggling and looking over at Carter. He still had his sweater covering his nose from the stench and his hands were tucked in his pockets.
He looked so adorable.

"Stop staring, sweetheart. You're gonna make it even more obvious that you like him." Jay whispered to me again and I nodded.

This is gonna be hard...
