I knew mom was lying about having any connection to the girl in the photo. I wasn't for sure about it but by the way mom has been denying knowing the girl, it's like mom must've had some bad memories with this kid. Almost every time I mention the girl mom brings up dads painting skills and dumb stuff, I guess she really wants me to drop the subject. I don't often talk about my father, but my mother has been really craving that conversation. Nothing bad happened to my father, he just kind of left us, when I was real young. It was sad, I had him one day, and he was gone the next. I know my dad is alive and doing okay, and he lives in some big city far away, I just don't know where or with whom. I do dream that mother and father will get back together eventually. Anyways back to moms weird behavior, she's been pushing the subject away. I figure she's trying to steer me away from the photo so she doesn't have to talk about it, but I wanna know so I'm gonna find out. Determination fills my lungs,
I breath adventure, and seek curiosity, I think I get it from my mothers younger self, since I've heard she used to be a curious one. I sat on the back porch and glared across the yard in the Sand boxes direction, I wonder if there is anymore pictures, or anything buried ,or hidden around the yard. I hear the back door creek and I spin around to see mother walking towards me, she steps down one step and then sits beside me, I smile at her. She looks at me as if she wants to tell me all her worries, she then says," your so beautiful...so was your aunt." I give her a confused look and she soon covers her mouth," I've said to much!" She exclaims. She gets up and rushes towards the door. I follow her,
But she is taller than I, and can walk much faster, she is soon down the hall closing her bedroom door. I walked down the hallway and climbed into my warm bed to read a book. Mother is soon waking me up," come on Leigh you have school this morning." I look at her and give her a mumble, but of course she's already grabbing my backpack, stuffing my lunch box, setting out my clothes. " mother, You don't have to wait on me hand and foot." I say watching her get everything together. She smiles at me," but this is your last day of school." She says. "I don't care." I reply as I slip on a totally different shirt then the black plaid one she picked, I then fitted into some boot cut jeans, and threw the baggy leggings she picked into the dirty laundry hamper. I looked pretty good in my baggy sweatshirt and my boot cut jeans that swayed over my chaco's. Mother grabbed my backpack and I grabbed my lunchbox and together me and mom got in the car, but she didn't even take me to school. " Mom where are you taking me?" I exclaimed. She could tell I was worried but all I got was," you'll see."
