(Emily's POV)Love comes to those who wait. I've heard a lot of people say these words, I just don't know if there is truth in this cliche but here I am, still waiting for Prince Charming to come for a few years now. Maybe he won't come for me anymore, maybe he got stuck in a tree or something that's why we can't be together anymore or maybe he got too tired of waiting, found love in another woman's arms, got tempted and left me to age all by myself and die all by myself. Oh well, maybe I'm really destined to be alone. Forever. Then I slowly drifted into a sea of nothingness.
"Doctor? Doctor? Doctor Cheng?!"
"Ah. Yes?" I said as I gave my secretary a surprised look.
"Doctor, the foundation called just now asking if you could come to their annual thanksgiving event this evening. They said it's gonna start at 7."
"Oh. Is it this evening already? It slipped on my mind but okay, tell them I'll be there."
She nodded and gave me a smile as she left the room. I checked the time and it's already 3 in the afternoon.
"Oh great. Now daydreaming has become my hobby." I said to myself as I fixed my things and got myself ready to leave the clinic.
I bade goodbye to my secretary and drove myself to a boutique that I really like. I need to buy a dress for tonight's event. I immediately went in to look for a really nice one and when I found it, I paid for it at once. I was about to get inside my car when my phone rang.
"Yes, hello?"
"Emily! It's mom. How are you? Are you doing fine, my dear?"Oh it's mom. And she's asking if i'm fine when she just called me earlier this morning. Oh mom. The perks of being an only child.
"Yes mom, I'm fine. How about you and dad?""Oh that's good. We are doing great dear. We are planning to go on a vacation next week. Any suggestions?" she asked with an excited tone.
"Uh, how about South Korea? Jeju Island. We went there last month for a conference and it was really great. I think you'd love it there mom." I said as I put a smile on my face.
"Okay dear! South Korea it is! We are so excited. But how about you? When are you going to visit mom and dad? We miss our baby already!"
"Eyyy!" I yammered. "Mom, I'm turning 29 this year yet you keep on calling me baby!"
I heard her laugh on the other line. "Alright, alright! But you are our only child, what can i do?"
I let out a deep sigh and smiled. "I miss you too, mom. And dad too. But you know, I'm really busy with my work and..." I was not able to finish as mom cut me off.
"Eyy! That's why you don't have any boyfriend since that good-for-nothing guy left you. Why don't you start dating again? We already want to play with our grandchild you know." And I heard her chuckle.
"Mom!" I shouted as I heard mom laugh aloud.
"Hahaha! Just remember that we love you and take care of yourself always, okay?""Yes mom. I love the both of you too and take care of yourself too." And then she hung up. I smiled to myself. I love my mom but she can be really mischievous sometimes. I gasped when I realized that it's already 5 o'clock. I hurriedly head home to get ready for tonight's event.
I took a shower then dried my body and my hair. I put on the coral-colored floor length lace formal dress that I bought earlier and wore my silver stilettos. I put on a light make up and placed my long layers and loose curly ends at the side to complete my simple look.
"And, I'm, done!" I blurted as I finished brushing my hair. I looked at the time and it's 30 minutes to seven so I hurried to my car and drove fast to the event.
