I can hear a creature beside me panting, endless bursts of flustered breaths echoed throughout my ears before I could open my eyes. Absolute darkness surrounded my person before my vision returned, and the courtyard came into view, strengthening my grip, I felt I had a weird dagger in my hand – the dagger that Kuri had used earlier. Little blades protruded from the blunt object like before although, it was slightly stained with red. The panting continued through this as my eyes caught the girl beneath me, she lay beside my feet as she desperately fought to catch her breath. “Rayne.. Are you okay?”, she ignored me though, instead she just lye on the dark grass – Raindrops pounded her soft face, soaking her black uniform as I knelt down to help the poor girl up.
“Answer me, are you okay?!”, “F-fi-ne” she gasped out under her ragged breathing. I noticed dark burn marks tightly fixated around her smooth neck as I pulled her up onto her feet, noticed by her slight wobble. “What happened?” I almost shouted at her. I had no memory recollection from since I accidentally wandered into that classroom of rotten corpses up until just a few seconds ago, the strong smell of death still haunted my quivering nose.
Reality came back to me as the rain began to beat down on us mercilessly, “It's getting worse, we should go inside!”, Rayne followed me, although stumbling slightly – she didn't look fine to me. I turned to her in the brewing storm, her face was gloomy and her eyes dark, “Are... you sure you're okay? We can find somewhere to sit down inside if need be...”. “Rayne is fine.” she blankly claimed as she passed me by, trudging through the entrance to the dark building – her breathing seemed calm by now. I hurried up to catch her, “So where are we going? We should look for the others...”.
“Rayne, where are you going?!”, I know – I was being loud, if anyone was around they must have surely heard us. Although, Rayne had been walking almost in a dream-like state for a while now, she wandered into a classroom next to the wrecked staircase and to my astonishment... The ceiling had half caved in, forming a bricky slope to the first story of the school since the stairs were inaccessible from this floor. I followed Rayne up the flights of dusty stairs, floor by floor and the further up we got, the thicker the air seemed to get. We were now on the 11th floor and my head began to feel dizzy, my body barely reacted to the orders I gave it anymore as I occasionally stumbled before catching my balance – Rayne seemed fine though, or rather, distant as she wandered up the staircase, she kept a perfect posture while her face remained emotionless. If anything, she looked almost like a zombie - apart from her lust for brains seemed non-existent.
“Hold up, Rayne! My head hurts...” I ran after her as she strode up the staircase, 12th floor.. then the 13th... then came the final floor. Although this floor was different, only one room sat at the end of a long hallway, another door stood next to the stairs that read “Exit”, I guessed that it lead to the roof.
That's when Rayne stopped at the peak of the steps, with me following behind her. “Is something wrong?”, I peered up at her, our clothes were still dripping wet – creating an echoing sound effect of drip... drip that haunted the corridor.
I began to feel slightly dizzy as I stumbled up to the girl above me, she had now turned to face me – her emotionless eyes glaring into my own, it sent shivers down my spine as her death stare continued. Her green eyes were now dark and faded, “Sharpy...” she whispered to me in a distant tone, “Sharpy?” I replied back, I couldn't think straight; although, I did have the weird dagger still well within my grasp. Her right hand slowly reached out towards me, taking hold of my dominant hand which held the stained blade. “Shar...py” she repeated herself again. At this point, I loosened the grip on the blade with a sigh, allowing her to grab it. She could barely hold it though, due to her small size the sweater she wore was slightly too big, with the sleeves covering her already small hands with her finger nails protruding from the material.
