Rowan, Ash, and I sit in front of the King and queen waiting for our position in the kingdom. We had barely became old enough to have a higher rank then pup. I look to my right and see the five high ranked wolves sitting waiting for the decision the King was about to make. I notice Night starring at me. Her blue eyes almost whispering to me. I start to feel drawn to it but I stay still. I look back up at the King and queen. King Tam walks down from his high rock and paces in front of us. He stops in front of Ash. He inspects him " would you be willing to protect the kingdom with your life?" Ash nods quickly Tam smiles "good then you are assigned guard." Ash smiles and goes and sits by Rye. The King stops in front of Rowan "you have the makings for a great warrior Rowan." Rowan smiles at the praise and nods Tam nods his head and Rowan bounds over to Ryesand and sits next to him. The King jumps back on the Rock and sits next to the queen. "The queen will decide your rank young one" he says to me and the beautiful queen jumps down. I straighten myself and hold my breath. I didn't quite know what rank I wanted. I had watched the Warriors train and has watched the guards stand watch all night. I wasn't sure which one was the best. Queen Shira looks me in the eyes and then circles me. Night looks up at the queen and then to me. She then smiles and nods I look at her confused "I think you would make a fine Assassin" the queen says in a soft voice. My eyes widen I turn and look at Night. Her eyes went huge, she stood up and smiled. I had heard the stories my mother told her about how Night had killed one of the pups because she caught him stealing one of her berries. She was banished from the other pups and only my mother would still hang around her. I slowly get up and walk over to her. I glance at Rowan and Ash they looked at me with pity in their eyes. I sit next to Night and glance up at her. She had a look of pride on her face. I hold still as the King waves his tail as a dismissal. We all stand and leave his den. Our new teachers were walking in a line behind us Rye started talking "hey beautiful looks like you finally got an apprentice." I look at Night and she smiled " "why are you surprised I new Day was going to be my apprentice from the day she was born" she says with her head held high "what made you think that" Ryesand said "because look at her she is strong and fast. She could hide very easy with that dark fur and look at those teeth." I start blushing feeling their stares lingering on me. "Well Ash and I are going to have fun. I'm going to teach him how to impress the ladies." I look at Ash and see him smiling. "Well I think the queen saw me getting older in the future so they wanted another assassin to take my place when I die" she says and sighs. Rye looks at her and licks her cheek "don't worry I won't let anything happen to you"
I look up at them in surprise, I thought everyone hated her or feared her I think to myself. I see her blush but kept walking. We all separated and we walked over to a very small den. We walked in and she laid down, she looks at me and nods "um well this is the first time I have had a apprentice." She says nervously "I guess you could go and sit right there" she says pointing to a corner in the den. I walk over and curl up and lay my head on my paws. The sky was darkening and I could hear the soft breaths of Night in the opposite corner. My eyes slowly fall as I drift into a deep dark sleep.
