Chapter 17

"Halloween?"

Jeff nodded and walked onto the sidewalk where pumpkins and creepy decorations were set up all over the place. "Halloween, trick or treat stuff starts at night which means Sally is going to want to go once again.."

I gave Jeff a weird look but he just brushed it off "yeah well come on the game shop is one block down" I nodded and started following him down the street as I looked at all the decorations. Fake webs, plastic spiders, snakes, carved pumpkins I was very interested on what I was seeing but everyone around us was dressed in normal clothing. I was going to ask Jeff about it but I know I would just get a sucky reply so I decided not to, I can always ask someone back at the mansion later. Once we made it to the game store Jeff knocked on the window and waited I just stood and hummed as I petted Smiles head. After a minute or so with no response the curtain was pushed back and a face looked at us he smiled and pointed backwards before closing the curtain. Jeff sighed and started walking away as I followed him to the back of the building where a red door with a black handle was, after a few seconds there was a loud click then the door opened showing the guy from up front. "Hey guys come inside!" He said letting us inside closing the door behind us which took us into a small hang out room he smiled once he saw me and held out his hand "It's nice to see you again Aspen!" I smiled and shook his hand but I couldn't remember his name only that it started with a J. "Nice to see you again James, wait or was it Jason?" He laughed and made a clicking noise with his mouth "yep James you're correct!" I smiled and nodded before letting go of his hand.

"This is nice and all but can you two stop doing what ever you doing I'm watching tv" Jeff growled and flopped down on the sofa before switching on the tv. James grabbed my hand and pulled me into his small store before letting me go "the earphones and headphones are on the left corner of the store" I smiled as I made my way over to that section of the store.

After about 30 minutes I found a nice pair of red and white ones and walked over to the counter. James saw and put his hands up and his left hand held some keys to open the store "Don't worry you don't have to pay me its on the house" I smiled and laughed "thanks!......also I wasn't going to pay I don't know how that stuff works I was going to make Jeff pay he's the one that's making a big deal over sound" he nodded and came out from behind the counter. I grab my box of headphones and walked to the back door well the second one far away from Jeff. "I'm going to head out see you later James" he smiled and turned his head to where Jeff was, "do you want me to go get him and his dog?" I quickly shaked my head and opened the door, "no maybe in an hour or so" he nodded and went back to work as I quickly snuck out the door which leads back into the forest.

I hummed and started walking not exactly knowing where I was going but that was a good thing. I wanted to clear my mind about things and feel normal for once so I just kept walking till I made it to a large lake with a boat dock. I walked over to the dock and went to the very end before looking down at my reflection in the calm water. I wanted to know more about my powers but I don't know what would happen, I just sighed and walked back to the mansion.

It didn't take long till I got there and walked in heading straight towards the kitchen only to find Jane and Sally playing a card game of some sort. I did a quick smile and wave before placing my new headphones on the small side table and walking over to a drawer pulling out a box of oreos. "I see you're hungry......" I tilted my head and looked behind me at Jane "well.....no I'm just think eating?" I quickly say as I grab a cookie and shove it into my mouth. She just nods and looks back down at her cards "you do know think eating isn't a thing....but I can tell it means something is wrong so what did you do this time?" Jane says placing down a pair three's on the table.

"humm.....nothings that I can think of.....that I did wrong.....yet" I say grabbing an open seat and sitting down in it as I watched them play, for once I didn't hear a peep out of Sally but her eyes were narrowed on the cards in front of her. Jane chuckled and looked behind me then back at me "where's Jeff anyway?.......didn't slender send you two and smile dog" I just shrugged and ate more oreos. "why would you like to know.......do you have something you would like to say to him?" Jane quickly places her cards face down and points her finger at me "ok I dont know whats gotten into you but I don't like it and no I don't have anything to tell Jeff it's just that usually he would come in here and yell about something with smile on his heels but he's not here".

"well that's easy.....I abandoned him in the store"

Suddenly Jane bursted into laughter as I told her "omg.....finally someone has the guts to do something like that to Jeff" before I could say anything Sally placed down all her cards and looked over at me "I win.....also Aspen you shouldn't have done that to Jeff". I just gave Sally wide eyes and placed my box of oreos on the table "what do you mean I shouldn't have done that he's deserved it ever since I came to this place and met him that day in the alleyway and he gets mad if I breath!" I say to Sally trying not to shout.

"But it's true......Jeff will get really mad" Sally says back to me hugging Charlie in her arms "well it's too late now it's been like an hour so we're just going to have to wait and see then" I say now actually a little worried about what's going to happen.

"but hey I would like to ask one thing......whats halloween?"

(Jeff's pov)

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE'S GONE?"

James just shrugged and started cleaning the glass behind the counter since he does sell soft drinks as people shop. "well she left I say about an hour ago" I growled and slammed my fist on the counter. How could she.......and to think I had actually gone soft for a girl after all these years "Do you know where she went?" I ask slowly losing my temper. Before he could ask I felt a poke on my shoulder "hey nice costume it looks so realistic!" I quickly turned my head seeing a teenage boy with blond hair and blue eyes, about 1 inch shorter then me.

I chuckled and put my hand in my pocket where my knife was "realistic......I can show you realistic" but before I could take my hand out James pulled me back and did a nervous laugh "please excuse my old friend......he is a little off today". I pushed him off as the boy nodded and walked away. "ok look Jeff I don't want you to hurt any of my customers......and Aspen might have just went back to the mansion where it's safe" James says giving me a stare. I roll my eyes and call smile before walking to the door of the store "she is going to pay......smile.....can you track her down?"
