Chapter 17
Falling For You

💌

RESHMI

"What would your parents say once they knew about this? Do you really think they would approve? Reshmi, you're all set and you know that. How can you enter a relationship like this?" My aunt asked, exasperated for the first time since we lived together.

"I didn't really plan it. I just..." never thought we would come to this. I never thought he would ever feel the same way.

Heaven to earth.
That's the distance I seem to have fallen from. Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, shit happens and I remember everything I left behind back home.

"I'm sure they would understand if I explainㅡ"

"Oh give it a shot." Aunt said, shaking her head. "But I'm telling you to end this if you're just starting. The less pain you'd feel." She said and went to her room. There was sadness and concern in her eyes that I have not seen before.

I decided to just shrug it off since I'm really bothered by what she said.

Being from a foreign country, sure, things are so different from culture to religion to the way people dress and the way people talk. I didn't even think I could adjust and blend along well enough with people here.

I still can't believe I have this life; this beautiful life where I'm free, where I learn so many things, and love whoever I want to love. And then there's the life before this; the life that's waiting for me to get back againㅡthe life that I ran away from.

Sungjae and I were in the campus during our breaks. His head was laying on my lap lazily while he asks me questions for his interview project.

"What are you studying in college and why did you choose it?"

"Ayurveda." I replied shortly as I run my hands through his soft dark hair. I still couldn't believe that that's a thing I can do to him now.

He looked at me with a frown. "Ayulvada?"

"Ayurveda." I repeated, quite smiling.

"Ayulveda."

"AYURRRR-VEDA." I said, chuckling.

He shot me a glare before letting out a short snort. "Are you laughing at me?"

"No, maybe I'm laughing at the trees!"

He frowned even more. "Wow."

"What?"

"You have this side too?"

"What side?"

He shook his head and turned his back on me without saying a word.

I laughed. "Yah! What's wrong with you?"

"You're laughing at me."

I held my laugh this time. "I just want you to pronounce it correctly."

"Ayulveda." He muttered.

I was grinning so wide but I didn't laugh with a sound. "Sungjae, R and L are not the same in foreign words, you know. AyuRRR-veda."

He turned back and looked at me with a serious face. “Stop it. It's difficult. How about you kiss me instead?” He asked, puckering his lips.

Although my cheeks flushed, I managed to say "That's not part of the interview."
